Miami Marlins is an Major League Baseball team located in Miami, Florida, affiliated to the National League East. The team was founded in 1993 and is home to the Marlins Baseball Stadium.
They won 2 World Championships in total. The first World Championships was won in 1997 and the second in 2003. What’s more special is that only these two times in the history of the team entered the playoffs , and both entered the qualifying for wildcards. They have never entered the qualifying for the NFC East. They have successfully won the World Championships when they entered the playoffs. They have not lost any series in the playoffs. They entered the playoffs with wildcards but stopped in the second round.
Team History
On March 7, 1990, PepsiCo CEO Wayne Huizenga announced the purchase of 15% of the Miami Dolphins and 50% of the Dolphins Stadium , with the estimated two transactions of $30 million. After the deal, Huizenga plans to build a baseball team here as the major leagues are interested in expanding their team count.
- After several months, the major leagues announced the addition of two new teams to the National League, named Marlins. As for the team location, there are two plans, one is in Orlando, and the other is Tampa Bay . Finally, it was decided to name it Florida Marlins [3]. The Marlins' home stadium is shared with the Miami Dolphins Stadium. After 19 years of sharing, the stadium ended in 2011. The Marlins set up a new home stadium in Little Havana, which was opened in 2012. The team will change their team name and uniforms, and the new team name is Miami Marlins.
- 3Marlins have won two World Championships championships (1997 and 2003) and two National League Championships (1997 and 2003). Both of these two playoffs have entered the game with wild card qualifications, and have never entered the playoffs as the National League East District Championship in the history of the team. - 1999 major league draft, Marlins selected Jach Beckett from Texas in the second pick. On Thanksgiving Day 2005, Marlins traded Beckett, the World Series Most Valuable Player Award and fans' favorite Mike Lowell to the Red Sox, and won Henry Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez. During the two years after this deal (2006 and 2007), the Marlins' winning rate was less than 50%. From 2005 to 2007, the team changed three different head coaches, including McKeon, Joe Girardi and Fredi Gonzalez. The team's winning rate once again reached more than 50% in 2008 and 2009.
