The Hualien County Government organized local farmers' associations and operators and representatives of pomelo farmers to go north together to vigorously sell Hualien agricultural products in Taipei, hoping to catch the express train of Mid-Autumn Festival holiday economy to help Hualien Wendan Pomelo sell well.
Hualien County Mayor Xu Zhenwei said that the Wendan pomelo planting area in Hualien County is about 1,013 hectares, with an annual output of about 17,300 tons, accounting for 1/4 of Taiwan's grapefruit production. The production areas are mainly concentrated in Ruisui Township, Yuxi area and other places. Among them, Ruisui Township has a planting area of 593.7 hectares, making it the largest single production area of Wendan pomelo in Taiwan, with an output of about 13,400 tons this year; the planting area in Yuxi area is about 166.48 hectares, with an output of about 1,415 tons.
According to Huang Shenghuang, Director-General of the Ruisui Township Farmers Association of Hualien County, the Wendan pomelo in Hualien County is large in planting area, and the air and water sources are not polluted, and farmers mostly adopt natural farming methods, without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, etc., and the local farmers' association has long been tutoring pomelo farmers to join the organic product and the production and sales resume system certification, thereby cultivating high-quality, delicious and beautiful Hualien Wendan pomelo, which can ensure that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait can purchase and taste with confidence.
"The mainland market is huge and the prospects for agricultural product sales are promising. At present, the Hualien County Farmers Association has reached cooperation with mainland operators. The first batch of Hualien Wendan pomelos successfully sold to the mainland, totaling 14.4 tons. With convenience stores in Shanghai as the main sales channel, I hope more mainland people can eat the sweet and delicious Wendan pomelos." Xu Zhenwei said that at present, farmers' associations, cooperatives and production and sales teams in various production areas of Hualien County are actively negotiating cooperation with export manufacturers, hoping that more Wendan pomelos will be sold to various provinces and cities in the mainland.
At the press conference, the reporter saw that in addition to displaying Hualien's best pomelo, local operators have also carefully created a series of delicious, useful and fun Wendan pomelo series products, which fully demonstrated the high economic value of Wendan pomelo, including: pomelo flower tea, Wendan pomelo juice and enzymes from Ruisui Township Farmers Association, pomelo fragrant jelly and grapefruit biscuits from Yuxi Region Farmers Association; pomelo beer, pomelo peel candy, pomelo fragrant pudding developed by Dongfeng Shiguai Farm, and pomelo shape cakes, pomelo mochi and grapefruit series cleaning supplies developed by some operators, which are dazzling. Many people and merchants placed orders to buy.
"The characteristic of Hualien Wendan Pomelo is that it can be stored for a long time and is resistant to storage. Even after the Mid-Autumn Festival, its nutritional value will not be lost. It is very suitable to be a fruit on the dining table, and even stored at ordinary room temperature for more than half a year. Although the peel will change, its sweetness will be relatively improved and its edible flavor will be better, which is very suitable for the healthy and green life of urban people." Huang Shenghuang said.
