Differences in environments require dogs of different sizes to work more effectively. For example, mountainous areas require faster speeds and more flexible and lightweight body shapes. The plains require stronger bodies to fight larger sheep. Therefore, in the development of the working-related border collie, four types were born:

traces all border collie, and their bloodlines are concentrated on a dog named Old Hemp, which is the early and purest look. Since its origin Northumberland , from the appearance, this type continues to be called the Northambrian type, which is characterized by a medium-sized body shape, medium-length hair, mostly black in color, and a small white area.

This type of dog was developed by a famous dog named Cap in the history of border herder development. Its characteristics are also long hair, but its size tends to develop in a large direction. It has a large and wide head and face, and has more white hair on the neck, chest, and front legs. Typical characteristics of this type of dog are that it has a huge herd instinct and is very obedient.

Nep type among the four types of border herders,Nep type is the only short hair variety. Its name comes from a dog named Nap. This type is very strong, fast and full of energy. This type of border herder generally has long legs and a slightly short body length, so it looks a bit square.

This type is named by Hemp's grandson named Tommy Border Herder. Tommy is medium in size, but has a larger bone mass, with tan spots on the black and white hair. This type of border collie has a good personality, is also very strong, and is particularly smart.

Different associations have different recognition standards. Unlike display dogs, the standards of the Shepherd Dog Association are mainly based on work ability, while display dogs and dog breeding associations pay more attention to body shape, appearance, bone mass, , hair volume, etc. Excessive bone mass and hair size increase actually cause a burden on the working dog line. So this also forms the certification recognized by the Dog Raising Association, but the Shepherd Raising Association does not recognize the certification of the Dog Raising Association. To explain, the working dog line can be recognized publicly, but the exhibition dog cannot be recognized by the Working Dog Association.
Our daily home-raising border herder requirements for seven-white tee, bone mass, hair volume, as well as various champion dogs, competition-grade dogs, , bloodline, etc., are all standards for display dogs.
This series of standards was originally formulated by the ANKC Australian Dog Riding Association in 1940 and gradually formed today's standards. AKCh American Dog Riding Association also basically complies with this standard. Therefore, the border couple under this standard system is called the Ao-style show dog
In recent years, with the development of various competitive competitions, such as agility, flying ball and other events. Another new category has been derived, competitive dogs. They are neither suitable for show exhibitions nor for participating in the selection of sheep herding skills, and are targeted for competitive projects.Its body is lighter and more flexible, and its special body structure is often invincible in competitive competitions. Like the Border Collie in Work Department, the standards of competitive dogs do not care about their appearance, but more about their athletic ability and body shape.
No matter which type of border collar, even more domestic display dogs, their athletic ability is weaker than working dogs and competitive dogs. Border herder, a dog that should have run on the vast grasslands, naturally has nowhere to display its strength. The strong physical fitness and energy have been transformed into the driving force for destroying the house and fighting wits with its owner. Of course, it also brought endless distress and happiness to many shovelers.
