TSMC CEO: 7-nanometer chips have been mass-produced, and the 5-nanometer process will be put into production as early as the end of next year

Wei Zhejia disclosed the news at a technical seminar held by TSMC not long ago. He said at the meeting that they have begun mass-producing 7-nanometer chips, but did not disclose which manufacturer it was for.

For the 5-nanometer process, Wei Zhejia revealed at the time that it would start mass production at the end of 2019 or early 2020.

Currently, TSMC is in the leading position in the 7nm process and has received a large number of orders from many manufacturers. Its latest integrated fan-out packaging (InFO) technology has been recognized by Apple, allowing it to obtain orders for the next generation of iPhone processors.

In the second half of this year, TSMC will also manufacture the latest chips for many manufacturers such as Huawei , AMD, Nvidia , etc. Foreign media also reported not long ago that Qualcomm's next generation Snapdragon 800 series processors will also adopt TSMC's 7-nanometer process. Many years ago, Qualcomm's series of processors were handed over to Samsung for foundry.

However, compared with central processor , graphics processor is later adopted in the latest chip process. Graphics processors produced using 7nm process are expected to enter the market in 2019. Nvidia will use TSMC's 12nm process in the near future to produce the upcoming next-generation graphics processor. The graphics processors using TSMC's 7nm process may have to wait for a while.
