Lin Zhijian announced his resignation from the election as mayor of Taoyuan.
China Taiwan Network reported on August 12th, according to Taiwanese media reports, Lin Zhijian, a candidate for Taoyuan mayor of the DPP, was identified by the National Taiwan University as having "serious plagiarism of the paper" and it is recommended to revoke his master's qualification. But Taiwan's leader and chairman of the DPP Tsai Ing-wen ignored the review results and publicly wanted the whole party to support it to the end. Regarding the recent rumors within the party that he wants him to withdraw from the election, Lin Zhijian issued a statement today (12th) stating that he will withdraw from the Taoyuan mayoral election and support his replacement, Zheng Yunpeng, the Democratic Progressive Party’s Taoyuan Regional Legislator.
Lin Zhijian’s “paper gate” scandal continues to spread. The DPP held a temporary “election meeting” at Tsai Ing-wen’s official residence at noon today (12th). It was reported that Lin had confirmed his withdrawal from the election and would be replaced by Zheng Yunpeng.
Lin Zhijian's paper was recently identified by National Taiwan University as "serious plagiarism" and decided to revoke his master's degree. Lin and the entire DPP’s image was severely damaged. In addition, on Wednesday, the Party Chairman Tsai Ing-wen ordered the whole party to "support Lin", and the party’s internal and public opinion was even more infuriating. In addition, the results of the paper review at the Chinese University of Taiwan are about to be released, and the results are not optimistic.
It is reported that this morning, Lin Zhijian and Zheng Yunpeng went to the office of Ke Jianming, the head of the Taiwan legislative body, to the DPP caucus, and then transferred to Tsai Ing-wen's official residence. This morning, DPP Secretary-General Lin Xiyao , the main members of the "Election and Righteous Meeting" and Taoyuan Mayor Zheng Wencan, the head of Taiwan's administrative agency Su Zhenchang and Taiwan's deputy leader Lai Ching-te also entered Tsai Ing-wen's official residence to discuss whether Lin Zhijian will stay or not.
