Angkor agency reported on May 1 that in the first four months of this year, a total of 33,205 foreign tourists purchased tickets to visit Angkor Wat, an increase of 633% compared with the same period last year, which was converted into US$1,352,615.
The report also pointed out that $66,410 of the Angkor Wat scenic spot ticket revenue in the first four months was donated to Kuntapahua Children's Hospital.
In addition, in April, the Central Angkor Wat attractions received a total of 13,365 foreign tourists, with ticket revenue of US$537,000. The increase was believed by officials because Cambodia opened its doors since November last year, allowing vaccinated tourists to enter the country without quarantine.
Cambodian Tourism Ministry spokesman Du Sopa told Xinhua News Agency: "At present, Angkor Wat attracts about 400 foreign tourists every day. The number has gradually increased from 70 people per day in two years of the outbreak to the present. Before the outbreak, the scenic spot received more than 9,000 foreign tourists every day."
Fairy Agency spokesman Longuesor said that since few people visited during the epidemic, the Fairy Agency took this opportunity to improve the infrastructure in the Angkor Wat scenic area. He said that the Angkor Wat scenic spot is now fully prepared to welcome tourists from all over the world.
It should be mentioned that before the outbreak of the epidemic, the World Heritage Site attracted 2.2 million foreign tourists in 2019, with ticket revenue of US$99 million.
