TSMC has filed lawsuits against GF in the United States, Germany and Singapore, accusing GF of infringing its 25 patents.
In response to the previous US chip manufacturer GSMC's patent infringement, TSMC officially issued an announcement stating that it has launched a counterattack on the matter, filed lawsuits against GSMC in the United States, Germany and Singapore, accusing GSMC of infringing 25 patents.
In addition, TSMC also proposed that the court should issue an injunction order , and prohibits GM from producing and selling infringing semiconductor products, and seek substantial compensation for damages from the company.
It is understood that TSMC mentioned 25 patents, involves a number of technologies such as 40nm, 28nm, 22nm, 14nm and 12nm chip processes, such as FinFET design, shallow trench isolation technology, double exposure method, advanced seal ring and door pole structure, and innovative contact etch stop layer design, and these technologies are the core technologies in the current world's leading semiconductor process.
TSMC Deputy General Manager and Legal Director Fang Shuhua said, "This legal lawsuit is filed to protect TSMC's reputation, our customers and global consumers, to ensure that the advanced semiconductor technology can be better applied to smartphones, 5G, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things and other fields and products, and is extremely important for protecting public interests."
GC is the third largest wafer foundry in the world. Not long ago, the company accused TSMC and its customers of infringing on 16 patented technologies in the US and German courts, and the US International Trade Commission also launched an investigation into TSMC.
