Thyroid nodules are a very common condition, especially in middle-aged women. Thyroid nodules are divided into two major categories: benign and malignant. Benevolent nodules account for the vast majority, and less than 1% of malignant nodules. There are many clinical thyroid diseases, such as degenerative thyroid degeneration, inflammation, autoimmunity, and new organisms, which can manifest as nodules. Thyroid nodules can be single or multiple, and the incidence of multiple nodules is higher than that of single nodules. Recently, the Minimally Invasive Surgery Department of Jinan Microsurgery Hospital admitted a patient with "bilateral thyroid nodules".
Before surgery
Ms. Shi from Shouguang, Weifang underwent a color ultrasound examination on the local area a week ago and found bilateral thyroid nodules. The right thyroid mass is about 1.0x0.8cm, and the left thyroid mass is about 3.0x2.5cm. The thyroid mass will move up and down with swallowing. Ms. Shi did not receive special treatment after the onset of the disease. Due to the limited local medical level, she learned that Professor Miao Qingsong of our hospital is a well-known minimally invasive surgical expert in Shandong Province, and is especially good at thyroid microwave ablation treatment, so she came to our hospital for treatment.
Intraoperative
After careful examination and careful discussion by Professor Miao Qingsong's expert team, and sufficient communication with the patients and their families, it was decided to perform "thyroid nodule biopsy + microwave ablation" surgery for Ms. Shi. After sufficient preoperative preparation, the operation was performed on the morning of the 7th. Our hospital adopts a new ultra-minimal invasive microwave ablation technique. Under ultrasound guidance, a 0.88 mm ablation needle was percutaneously punctured into the central area of the tumor to perform local thermal ablation of the tumor. The operation took half an hour and was successfully completed.
After surgery
Most people find thyroid nodules, and the first reaction is to remove them, but surgical removal of nodules is not the preferred treatment method for thyroid nodules. With the development of medical technology, ultra-minimal invasive ablation of thyroid nodules is becoming more and more popular among patients. Its advantages are small trauma, fast recovery, no long-term medication, no scars on the neck, and no impact on the patient's thyroid function after the operation.
