According to Reuters and Business Insider, Rudy Giuliani, the lawyer for U.S. President Donald Trump, said on December 8 that his condition improved after being infected with the new coronavirus and is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Giuliani also revealed that the treatment he received was the same as Trump did when he suffered from COVID-19.
The 76-year-old former New York mayor, a leader in Trump's legal battle, is leading the Republican presidential campaign to reverse the unfavorable situation of losing to Democratic President Joe Biden. He said he was feeling unusually tired since Friday.
When his diagnosis was released on Sunday, Giuliani said he had other "mild symptoms" but currently has no fever, only a mild cough.
"I think they'll get me out of the hospital tomorrow morning," Giuliani said in an interview with WABC Radio in New York on Tuesday. Two sources familiar with the situation said Sunday that he was treated at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington.
Giuliani also said Tuesday that he was admitted to the hospital based on Trump's advice and mentioned that he was receiving the same treatments Trump had received when he contracted the coronavirus in October.
Giuliani said: "His doctor sent me here. He convinced me. I really don't want to go to the hospital. He said: 'Don't be stupid, if we take you to the hospital, it will be solved within three days.'"
One of the sources said Tuesday (December 8) that Giuliani planned to attend a virtual hearing held by the Georgia lawmakers this week.
So far, Trump's legal efforts have not convinced any court of trust in the president's claim that widespread fraud has led to his election failure. Giuliani has been meeting with state officials in an attempt to convince them to overturn the election results.
State and federal officials have repeatedly stated that there is no evidence of any large-scale fraud. Courts across the country have rejected cases of attempting to overturn the vote, including the U.S. Supreme Court. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court refused to block Biden from officially winning in Pennsylvania.
In Georgia, state lawmakers are scheduled to hold a virtual meeting Thursday to discuss election issues. At a hearing last week, Giuliani urged the state legislators to step in and overturn Biden's victory in the state. Giuliani made similar requests last week in , Michigan, and Arizona.
After learning about Giuliani's COVID-19 test results on Sunday, the Arizona Legislature said it will close both hospitals this week out of caution over "recent cases and concerns related to COVID-19." Giuliani met with more than a dozen Republican lawmakers there last week.
In his radio interview, Giuliani said that he had tested negative just before he visited the three states.
He also confirmed that attorney Jenna Ellis, who worked with Trump in legal proceedings, was also infected with the coronavirus.
