General of the Town West, an important military general in ancient times, was one of the four town generals. As an important general, the generals of the Four Towns guarded all directions and were second only to the Four Conquest Generals in their status. During the Three Kingdoms period, Shu Han had military generals such as Jiang Wei and Hu Ji, who served as generals in Zhenxi, while Cao Wei had military generals such as Cao Zhen, Deng Ai, and Zhong Hui, who served as officials. As for the Eastern Wu that the author is going to talk about today, there are three "Generals of Zhenxi" in history.
General of the West of Zhenxi: Luxun
Luxun was born in the Lu family of Wujun and was a gentry in Jiangdong. He was one of the four major surnames in Jiangdong (Wujun Gu family, Wujun Lu family, Wujun Zhu family, and Wujun Zhang family). Grandfather Lu Yu served as the captain of the city gate. His father Lu Jun was appointed as the commander of Jiujiang (now Shouchun East, Anhui). Lu Xun was born in Huating and lost his father at a young age. He followed his grandfather Lu Kang, the prefect of Lujiang, and studied in Shu County. Among the people in Wu County at that time, Lu Ji and Gu Shao were the most famous for their extensive reading of books, followed by Lu Xun, Zhang Dun, Bu Jing and Wu Can.
In the fifth year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (200), Sun Ce died because he was assassinated by Xu Gong's three disciples. Sun Quan took charge of Jiangdong, recruited handsome men and hired famous scholars. In 203 AD, Lu Xun began to assist Sun Quan. Because Lu Xun made many military achievements in conquering Shanyue, Sun Quan betrothed Sun Ce's daughter to Lu Xun. In 219 AD, Guan Yu attacked Cao Wei in the north and launched the Battle of Xiangfan. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Sun Quan sent Lu Meng, Lu Xun and others to attack Jingzhou. In 220 AD, Guan Yu was defeated and killed.
In the battle of sneak attack on Jingzhou, Lu Xun was recruited tens of thousands of Guan Yu's army. Sun Quan appointed Lu Xun as the Right Guardian and the General of Zhenxi, and was granted the title of Marquis of Lou and the Pacification of Jingzhou. Sun Quan praised Lu Xun for his merits and wanted to demonstrate his glory. In 222 AD, Lu Xun defeated Liu Bei and won the Battle of Yiling. In the same year, Cao Pi sent a large army to attack the Eastern Wu, and Lu Xun resolved the offensive from Cao Wei. In 229 AD, Sun Quan ascended the throne in Wuchang and became emperor. Considering Lu Xun's achievements, Sun Quan established a Supreme General above the General. After Sun Quan moved the capital to Jianye, Lu Xun served as the general and assisted the prince Sun Deng to guard Wuchang.
In 244 AD, Lu Xun was enthroned by Sun Quan as Prime Minister and the governor of Jingzhou. Because the prince's son Sun Deng died of illness, a dispute between the two palaces broke out within the Eastern Wu. As for Lu Xun, it is also involved. In 245 AD, Sun Quan sent his subordinates to blame Lu Xun, which led to Lu Xun's illness and death at the age of 63.
Town West (Grand) General: Lu Kai
Lu Kai (198-269), whose courtesy name is Jingfeng, was from Wuxian County, Wujun (now Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province). As an important official of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period, Lu Kai was the nephew of Prime Minister Lu Xun and the brother of Grand Sima Lu Kang. During the Huangwu period, Lu Kai was born as a filial and honest official, and served as a county magistrate and other official positions, and achieved great success. He was appointed as the commander of Jianwu and the prefect of Dan'er, and led his army to attack Zhuya and Dan'er, and moved to Jianwu's commander. In the second year of Wufeng (255), Lu Kai tried to kill Chen Liyan, a bandit in Lingling, and appointed him as the general and the governor of Baqiu, and was conferred the title of Duxiang Marquis. He moved to the right governor of Wuchang and followed the army into Shouchun. Later, Lu Kai was enthroned as General Dangwei and was given the title of General Suiyuan.
In the first year of Yong'an (258), Kuaiji King Sun Liang was deposed and Sun Xiu succeeded to the throne. Lu Kai was appointed as General of the Northern Expedition, and was appointed as the governor of Yuzhou in the distance. In the first year of Yuanxing (264), Emperor Jing of Wu, Sun Xiu, died of illness and was succeeded by Sun Hao. Lu Kai was renamed General of Zhenxi and Governor Baqiu, led the governor of Jingzhou, and was granted the title of Marquis of Jiaxing. Of course, like Lu Xun, Lu Kai's official position did not stop at the position of General Zhenxi. In 266 AD, Lu Kai was promoted to the left prime minister.
In the first year of Jianheng (269), Lu Kai died of illness at the age of 72. Sun Hao was actually very dissatisfied with Lu Kai's repeated blunt advice and even disobeying the order. In addition to He Ding's repeated malicious slander, he became even more angry with him. However, Lu Kai was always an important official and it was difficult to punish him with laws and regulations. Moreover, Lu Kai's clan brother Lu Kang was also a general at that time, so he could only tolerate it. In the third year of Phoenix (274), Lu Kang died. The following year, Sun Hao chose to retaliate against Lu Kai and moved all of Lu Kai and his family to Jian'an County.
General of the West of Zhenxi: Zhu Wan
Zhu Wan, a general of the Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period. Danyang Guzhen (now northwest of Anji, Zhejiang). After his father Zhu Cai died, Zhu Wan inherited the title of Marquis of Piling and served as General Zhenxi in Eastern Wu.In August of 272 AD (the first year of Fenghuang in Wu, the eighth year of Taishi in Jin), Sun Hao summoned General Zhaowu and the governor of Xiling Buchan.
Bu Chan lived in Xiling for generations and was suddenly summoned, thinking that he was a place of dereliction of duty and was afraid that someone would slander. In September, he occupied Xiling City and surrendered to the Western Jin Dynasty and sent his nephews Bu Ji and Bu Yu to Luoyang to be hostages. Emperor Wu of Jin, Sima Yan, ordered Bu Chan to be appointed as General of Wei, Kaifu Yitong Sansi, Shizhong, and also served as the governor of Jiaozhou, and was granted Bu Chan as Duke Yidu.
After learning about Bu Chan’s betrayal, Sun Hao sent Lu Kang to quell the rebellion. As for Zhu Wan, who served as the general of Zhenxi, also participated in the battle and assisted Lu Kang in defeating the Western Jin army. However, after the Battle of Xiling, there were no relevant records of Zhu Wan in historical materials such as "The Three Kingdoms", which means that the whereabouts of unknown origins are found.
