IT Home December 7th news, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced in a blog post that Instagram will launch a new parental control feature on its platform in March 2022.
They will allow parents and guardians to view the time teens spend on Instagram, set time limit , and receive notifications when their children report someone, aiming to make the platform a safer place, especially for teen users.
Although Mosseri's post says these security features have been “used for a long time”, the announcement comes after a series of destructive revelations about the social networks owned by Meta.
Most notably, internal documents leaked by whistleblower Frances Haugen suggest that Instagram is aware that its services may make body image problems worse for female teen users. This week, Mosseri will testify before a Senate committee, when he may be asked about the impact of Instagram on its younger users.
IT Home learned that in addition to the new parental controls, Instagram also said it is developing an education center for parents and guardians to provide them with tips and tutorials on children’s social media use.
