In most countries' navies, there are some so-called near-shore patrol boats. Their main task is to provide security alert for military ports, and even in offshore exercises, they can serve as a warning force outside the exercise area.
Before this, the Chinese Navy could take on this task were the 026H series patrol boats, 62 series escort boats and 037 series submarine hunting hikes /missile escort boats. However, with the large-scale construction of Chinese Navy ships, all the 026H series patrol boats have been retired many years ago, almost all the 62 series escort boats have been retired, and the 037 series submarine hunting boats have been retired in large quantities, and even the 037 series missile escort boats have begun to be partially retired.
In view of this, the Chinese Navy urgently needs a type of standing ship that can serve as a warning for ports and exercise areas. Looking at the current light ships in the Chinese Navy series, if they use them as a new type of alert ship platform, some people will definitely choose hulls similar to the 037 series. Although the 037 series has been retired in large quantities, its hull platform is still active in new ships, such as the Chinese Navy's rapid ambulance boat, whose hull is based on the 037 series as the parent type, and there are also exported foreign trade missile boats/patrol boats, and the 037 series is still imprinted on them.
So there is a lot of call online to design a new nearshore patrol boat on the 037 series hull platform for special purpose. He even outlined an imaginary picture for it and equipped it with weapons: a 76mm main gun, two single-barrel 30mm secondary guns, and a double-barrel rear main gun with an incomprehensible model. Such high-end weapons have seriously increased their construction costs. I believe everyone knows that the Chinese Navy is a navy that knows how to choose the cost of weapon configuration. In order to reduce the construction costs, it will always make unnecessary cuts in the configuration of weapons.
Therefore, such a high-end near-shore patrol boat is not suitable for construction. In fact, most of the ships used for alert are sailing and performing tasks in the waters under the jurisdiction of China. The tonnage does not need to reach about 400 tons of the 037 series, but only about 200-300 tons is enough. In fact, weapons and equipment do not require such a small boat to install cannons. It only requires a slightly cheaper single-barrel 30mm cannon, nor does it require additional secondary cannons. Just install two machine guns on the left and right sides, and also add soft lethal water cannons, which is enough for this design.
In short, its platform can draw on the 300-ton patrol boat of the former customs of the China Coast Guard, or a type of near-shore patrol boat that a Chinese shipyard once exported to Seychelles. Its appearance is very similar to the 300-ton patrol boat of the original customs, but the tonnage will be smaller, but it is also very suitable as a guard patrol boat. The main personnel are not equipped with many. They are usually stationed in the military port. If you have a mission, you can go out to the sea. There is no need to install any killing weapons, and there is no need for missile weapons. After all, it is a low-intensity patrol boat for nearshore alert.
In a few years, the Chinese Navy will definitely urgently need a batch of near-shore patrol boats for alerting. After all, the security alerts in military ports and exercise mission areas always allow some weapons-free icebreakers, navigation ships, and others to take on alert tasks, which is so inappropriate. It is better to spend some money to build a practical and non-organized nearshore patrol boat as a standing guard.
