The Presidential Palace Scenic Area is located at No. 292 Changjiang Road, Nanjing. It has passed through the Ming Dynasty's royal palace, Liangjiang Supervisor's Office, the Heavenly Dynasty Palace, the Provisional President's Office and the National Government and other official residences. In March 1948, the "Constitutional and National Congress" was held. On April 19, Chiang Kai-shek was elected president, and on April 29, Li Zongren was elected vice president. On May 1, the conference concluded. The National Government was renamed the Presidential Palace. The inauguration ceremony of the president and vice president is about to be held, and the situation is turbulent and time is tight. In early May, the three words "Presidential Palace" written by Zhou Zhongyue, the former vice president of the Examinations Institute, were kept in wood and hung on the gatehouse on a hut.
On April 23, 1949, the People's Liberation Army broke through the Yangtze River and Nanjing was liberated. In the early morning of the 24th, the People's Liberation Army occupied the Presidential Palace, burned the blue sky and white sun flag on the flagpole, and raised the red flag. The Presidential Palace has become a place for the people to celebrate their victory. On October 1, the military and civilians of Nanjing held a grand celebration at the Presidential Palace. On October 22, 1949, Nanjing City established the "Cultural Relics Storage Committee" referred to as the Nanjing Cultural Heritage Protection Association, which is affiliated to the Nanjing Municipal People's Government and works here. In October 1950, when the National Day was celebrated, the People's Liberation Army Navy officers and soldiers visited here, and the three words "Presidential Palace" were still on the gatehouse.
On January 1, 1953, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government Committee was established and worked here. The committee chairman Tan Zhenlin, vice chairman Ke Qingshi, Guan Wenmo and Leng Ju. On June 24, 1954, the Preparatory Committee of the Jiangsu Branch of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee (the predecessor of the Provincial Democratic Revolution) was established and worked here. Since then, the democratic parties such as the Provincial Democratic League and the Provincial Democratic Progressive Party have been stationed in the hospital for offices.
In November 1960, the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference moved from Fuhougang 30 to No. 292 Changjiang Road to work. In December, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government moved out. On October 25, 1962, the Nanjing Cultural Administration Commission moved out. Previously, the three words "Presidential Palace" had been removed before. It is said that in 1958, three large iron doors of the Presidential Palace were removed and returned to the furnace to make steel, and replaced with three red doors.
In a photo taken on June 23, 1964, it can be clearly seen that after the three words "Presidential Palace" were removed, its original position had been replaced with a five-pointed star. This five-pointed star is located in the center above the gate tower, with a diameter of about 2.5 meters. There are two vertical plaques on both sides of the central gate, "China People's Political Consultative Conference Jiangsu Provincial Committee" and "China People's Political Consultative Conference Jiangsu Nanjing Municipal Committee" respectively. At the same time, the three iron doors of the Presidential Palace have been replaced with mahogany doors.
From August 1966 to February 1968, early mass organizations of the "Jiangsu Provincial Red Rebel Command" and "Jiangsu Provincial Revolutionary Rebel Joint Preparatory Committee" were established here. Since then, this compound was implemented for military control until the end of the Cultural Revolution. The buildings of the Presidential Palace were basically preserved intact.
In 1977, the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and famous democratic parties resumed work at the compound No. 292 Changjiang Road. On New Year's Day in 1980, the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government moved from No. 32 Zhongshan North Road, Nanjing to the compound office No. 292. From this photo taken in the early 1980s, it can be seen that the upper part of the Presidential Palace Gate Building had become blank without any signs and patterns. The "Jiangsu Provincial People's Government" and "Standal Committee of the People's Congress of Jiangsu Province" were hung on both sides of the middle gate, and the "Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference" was hung on the east side of the west gate. These were the main units that worked in the compound at that time.
In 2000, after the office of the compound No. 292 was moved out one after another, the open area gradually increased. On September 30, 2002, the three words "Presidential Palace" copied in its original appearance were hung on the Presidential Palace Gate Building, and the next year, the iron gate was restored. On March 1, 2003, the museum area of the Nanjing Modern History Site Museum, which was selected here, was fully opened.
