Two Taiwanese companies engaged in manufacturing have pledged to invest $9 million in the construction of the factory in the free port area of Subic Bay (SubicBay).
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Director and Chief Executive Officer Wilma Eisma said Taiwan Milagros International Inc. and Gray MatterIndustries Group recently made the investment commitments at the Philippines Investment Forum held in Taipei.
In particular, Hannen plans to invest $6 million in Subic this year and hire 600 workers.
The group is mainly engaged in the design, manufacturing and sales of suitcases, fashionable handbags, backpacks, clothing, outdoor products, as well as pet supplies and supporting products, all sold in the United States.
At the same time, Smart Industry Group plans to invest $3 million to build a factory in Subic and hire 200 employees.
Smart Industry Group mainly produces PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, plastic films and other plastic products.
In addition to Hanen and Smart Industry Group, Eisma said there are six other manufacturing companies that have expressed interest in investing in Subic.
These companies include:
Rong Shin Industrial Co. Ltd (mainly engaged in lawn and garden power tool silence systems); Kecheng Technology Co. Ltd (supplier of Taiwan computer giant Wistron ); Primax Electronic Ltd (mainly engaged in computer peripherals and accessories); Changde Co. Ltd (cd.StarCo., Ltd) (mainly engaged in OEM casual sports shoes brands such as Skechers, Keen, Clarks, Asics, Salomon, Novi, etc.); Ya Horng Electronics Co. Ltd (manufacturer of electrical appliances and audio-visual electronic products); Zhongpeng Enterprise Co. Ltd (SagittariusSporting Good Co. Ltd Xiamen Feipeng Industrial Co. Ltd) (mainly engaged in sports and protective products).
SBMA is currently negotiating with six companies to determine its investment plans in the country.
Eisma said most Taiwanese investors plan to set up factories in Tipo, which is developing into a major industrial base.
