Bruno Barbet has a deep connection with China. In September 1973, the then French President Georges Pompidou paid an official visit to China. Barbet, as a journalist certified by the Presidential Palace, joined the accompanying press corps. He took a series of photos of China using his favorite Kodachrome film, recording the life scenes of the Chinese people at that time, and thus became the first photographer to use color film to shoot China.
In the more than 40 years since then, Bruno Barbet has visited China many times, traveling to Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Guangxi, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Macau and other places, using the changes in color to witness the development of China and using his lens to A large number of photos with the characteristics of the times were recorded. In 2019, his photography book "The Color of China" was published for the first time in the world. The book contains more than 300 color photos taken by Barbet in China from 1973 to 2018, showing the Chinese society under his lens. change.

Bruno Barbey was born in Morocco in 1941. He studied photography and graphic design at the School of Applied Arts in Vevey, Switzerland. In the 1960s, he joined Magnum Photo Agency. From 1978 to 1979, he served as Vice Chairman of Magnum Photo Agency Europe, and from 1992 to 1995, he served as Chairman. His work is famous for his free and harmonious use of color. Barbey traveled across five continents and witnessed countless military conflicts. Although he does not accept the label of "war photographer", he has personally experienced Nigeria, Vietnam, the Middle East, Bangladesh, Colombia, Northern Ireland, Iraq, Kuwait and other countries and regions. of war. His photos have also been widely used and published in major magazines around the world, and have been collected by many art museums.
