What types of passengers are affected?
✅ For passengers who purchase Basic, Standard or Flex tickets, the charges depend on the destination, ticket type, route, purchase date and flight frequency.
Lohas reminds everyone that tickets issued before August 23 will still be processed according to the existing rates. So if you have already purchased a ticket, friends with 2 free checked bags shown above will not be affected by the new policy.
What is the specific checked baggage price after the adjustment?
1️⃣Canadian domestic routes to and from the United States:
✅ Baggage charges remain unchanged
2️⃣To and from Canada/United States- Caribbean / Mexico / Central America route:
✅ Passengers who purchase Basic or Standard tickets: $30 for the first bag;
✅ Passengers who purchase Basic, Standard or Flex tickets: $50 for the second bag (remains unchanged).
3️⃣The second baggage fee will now be in effect on all routes. Passengers purchasing Basic, Standard or Flex tickets will be charged $100 one way, including:
✅ Round trip Canada/United States-South America routes;
✅Routes to and from Canada/United States-Europe/ Middle East/Africa;
✅Routes to and from Canada/United States-Asia/South Pacific;
✅Other international routes.
According to the new policy, Air Canada charges $100 Canadian dollars for the second checked bag.
This is really adding insult to injury for the already expensive return ticket!
