OS X Yosemite and iOS 8 work together to break down the wall between Mac computers and iOS devices. One of them is to receive and receive iPhone text messages on Mac ("forward" iPhone text messages to Mac). With Apple officially releasing iOS 8.1 on Monday, this awesome new feature is now available to everyone. We’ve waited a long time from iOS 8.0, okay?
In the settings panel of iOS 8.1, the “Text Message Forwarding” option can turn the “Messages” app on your Mac into a perfect text messaging app. Now, on the Mac side, you can now stay in constant sync with your friends who don’t use an Apple device and can write, send, and receive regular text messages.
Note 1: Your Mac must be running OS X Yosemite and your iOS device must be running iOS 8.1. You also need to ensure that the hardware of your devices meets Apple's "continuity" feature requirements.
Note 2: You must be logged in to the same Apple ID in iCloud settings on your iPhone and Mac.
Enable sending and receiving iPhone text messages on Mac
Step one: Open the "Settings" application on the iPhone, go to "Messages" - "Text Message Forwarding" option.
You need to enter the code to verify and add the device for text message forwarding. The Mac will automatically open the "Message" application and pop up the code display panel as shown below.
Step 2: Enter the above 6-digit code on the page corresponding to the iPhone. Click the "Allow" button to continue.
It's as easy as pairing Bluetooth. Now you can send and receive regular text messages from your Mac. Regular text messages will now have a green bubble, while iMessage messages will still have a blue bubble.
