The happiness that comes with dog training

In July 2005, Xu Fangfang was sent by her employer to the Nanjing Police Dog Technology Research Institute for training.

Weiwei is the first dog trained by Xu Fangfang, springer spaniel , with brown and white fur. After taking Weiwei back to the kennel, Xu Fangfang loved it so much that she couldn't bear to leave. "It would be too easy for me to raise a pet dog, but training a dog with the word 'police' on it has a mission. It will serve the public security in the future and has a heavy responsibility." well? Xu Fangfang was confused. She and Weiwei were both novices.

"Cross the river by feeling for the stones." Under the guidance of the tutor, Xu Fangfang led Weiwei to start a new and tortuous training process. Identification, search, tracking...the subject training is very strict. The training methods and requirements of each subject are different. The dog's movements must be precise and in place.

For example, the dog's behaviors such as eating, sitting, standing, walking, and defecating are all items that require training. Every time the handler makes a gesture or issues an instruction, the dog needs to be trained repeatedly to achieve standardized actions.

After a day of training, Xu Fangfang was so tired that she couldn't straighten up. She couldn't help feeling sad when she saw Weiwei, still a puppy, struggling to repeat the same actions every day. She always wanted to reach out and hug him to let him rest for a while. But in strict training, this is not allowed.

When training was tiring, Xu Fangfang could only encourage Weiwei over and over again. After completing the prescribed actions, she and Weiwei would also play together, throwing balls to him and letting him pick them back up. These pleasant scenes also allowed Xu Fangfang to experience the happiness of being with a dog.

Three months later, Xu Fangfang and Weiwei "debuted" together and started their journey of solving crimes.

Xu Fangfang still clearly remembers that she took Weiwei to help solve a corpse dumping case in Pinggu District, , Beijing. At that time, an old woman reported that her husband was missing. The police suspected that the old man was suddenly ill or injured. They searched the village for many days but found no results. So, they thought of police dogs. After receiving the mission, Xu Fangfang rushed to the village with Weiwei and colleagues to participate in the search work.

The terrain of the village is relatively complex, with dense woods, intersecting alleys, a back hill full of garbage, and a cliff at the bottom. Xu Fangfang and his party searched continuously for five or six hours from afternoon to evening without any progress. Both the man and the dog were exhausted, and only the mountain of garbage was left behind. It was the height of summer in July and August, and the garbage dump was full of flies and insects. The smell was pungent, which was extremely challenging for police dogs who rely on their sense of smell to work.

Seeing the sky gradually darkening and facing the stench, Xu Fangfang and his colleagues divided the garbage dump into three areas and started to act separately. When she led Weiwei to search a corner, Weiwei issued a warning response, stopped, and then lay down. Xu Fangfang and her colleagues quickly gathered around, but there was nothing but garbage in front of them.

Could it be that the garbage dump smell is too strong and Weiwei made a mistake? Xu Fangfang, who didn't have much work experience at the time, was about to take Weiwei away, but Weiwei reacted more violently, dug down with her claws, and finally found some clues.

Forensic doctors arrived and after some identification, they confirmed that what Weiwei found was burned human tissue from the waist to the buttocks. As a result, the investigators and police dogs launched a blanket search of the garbage mountain, and a total of three pieces of burned and rotten human tissue were found at the scene that night.The key evidence discovered by

police dogs changed the nature of the case and adjusted the direction of the case in time. After investigation, it was found that the murderer of the dismemberment case was the old woman who reported the crime. She killed her husband due to a daily dispute, dismembered the body and burned it. case.

The detection of this case greatly encouraged the fledgling Xu Fangfang. Later, in many security activities and criminal and accident scenes, Xu Fangfang and the police dog Weiwei fighting side by side became a beautiful scenery.

In the 4th National Police Dog Technology Competition in 2013, Weiwei participated in the drug search competition and won 11th place. This became the first trophy she and Weiwei won together.

Limited life

At the end of 2018, Weiwei turned 14 years old. At this age, Weiwei is equivalent to a decrepit old man over 100 years old. He has many problems such as his heart and blood pressure. He also has bone spurs on his feet. , hearing, Vision also deteriorated. Xu Fangfang knew that Weiwei's time was running out.

She was afraid that Weiwei would feel lonely, so she often walked it when she was free. Sometimes Weiwei walked far away, and Xu Fangfang called it from behind, but it couldn't hear it, so Xu Fangfang could only wave and call it.

Gradually, Weiwei's feet also became lame, but it was still very brave. When crossing ditches and obstacles, it could obviously walk or go around it, but it still jumped like before, and often kowtowed when it couldn't jump, which made Xu Fangfang very angry Feeling distressed.

On January 16, 2019, the weather was very cold. Weiwei, who had not eaten for several days, lay quietly in the kennel and never got up. Xu Fangfang shed tears and sent Weiwei to the crematorium as if she was bidding farewell to a relative.

She believed that the dog had given its life to its handler, and if it worked hard, the handler would have the responsibility to care for it until it died, so she set a rule for herself: no dogs should be eliminated.

Because she adheres to this rule, Xu Fangfang spends almost all her time with her dog. She brought a total of six dogs. In addition to Weiwei, there are also Yiyi, Shiye, and Shitian. These four are springer spaniels, mainly used for search. The unit also assigned her a Malinois Yingluo and a Pointer Baoyin.

One dog is enough to keep people busy, how can they take care of this group? Many trainers regard dogs as comrades and brothers, but Xu Fangfang regards them as her own children. No matter where they are kept, she will always care about them.

When Xu Fangfang took him with him, Fang Fang is already very experienced in dog training, but because there are other dogs that need to be trained, which takes up more energy, she spends less energy on the well-behaved Shi Tian, ​​so sometimes she feels that she is special to Shi Tian. Fortunately, Shitian was very successful, and Xu Fangfang was also very pleased.

Enters the New Crime Field

Yingluo is the first female dog brought by Xu Fangfang. She was only a few months old when she was brought back. When it was time to train, she had a physical problem. Her walking legs were lame and she was unwilling to stand. , if you can lie down, you won’t sit down.

At first, Xu Fangfang thought Yingluo was lazy. After a doctor's examination, she discovered that Yingluo suffered from systemic osteitis, had no explosive power, could not exercise, and could not even do basic training. But she did not give up on Yingluo. She took Yingluo to treatment regularly and gave her medicine on time every day. This persistence lasted two years. Yingluo finally recovered and was trained by Xu Fangfang to become a bloodstain search expert. She made many achievements in handling cases. .

In addition to Yingluo, Xu Fangfang is also constantly discovering the characteristics of each dog through dog training work. Baoyin, the Pointer dog she brought with her, has marched into the new criminal field, searching for hidden evidence that is difficult for ordinary people to find. For example, at the logistics warehouse training venue, Xu Fangfang gave Baoyin instructions over and over again to let it smell the target among the mountains of packages. This was a scene to train its recognition ability.

In recent years, telecom and fraud cases have become rampant. Fraudsters deliver telephone cards, bank cards, USB shields or mobile phones and other crime tools from overseas by mail, and train police dogs to identify special packages through smell and find illegal "two cards". In recent years, Xu Fangfang has been the main subject of dog training.

In order to effectively train, Xu Fangfang developed a treasure hunt game. She took Baoyin to search for express packages in the logistics and freight center. Packages from the

Logistics and Freight Center will be shipped at six or seven in the morning, so she and Baoyin can only arrive at the warehouse for training at two or three in the morning. Xu Fangfang often intercepts packages from colleagues and mixes them with other packages as a training guide for Baoyin. The game

Dog training is a responsibility

Among the six dogs trained by Xu Fangfang, each dog has its own characteristics and has the ability to serve the public security work at any time. In the police dog industry, she was the first person to successfully use "Springer Spaniel identification training and nose-holding sniffing", and also pioneered the "double-dog compound search" working method. Shitian and Baoyin can also search for TATP new explosives. In Beijing, there are only more than ten dogs with this skill.

In the past fifteen years as a police dog trainer, Xu Fangfang and her police dogs have seized more than 6 kilograms of various drugs, found more than 100 items left behind at crime scenes, participated in the investigation of more than 400 criminal cases, and completed 1,400 explosion-proof security inspections at major events.
