China Taiwan Network, April 25 According to Taiwan's "China Times" report, another school on the island cannot survive due to the declining birthrate. The Board of Directors of the Taiwan Institute of Tourism decided to suspend the operation in February this year. Taiwan’s education affairs authorities stated on the 24th that the suspension plan had been delivered on the 15th, the review process had begun, and the suspension results are expected to be approved in June.

According to reports, due to the impact of the declining birthrate, the financial situation of the Taiwan Institute of Tourism has deteriorated. The board of directors applied for a suspension of enrollment in the 2021 academic year in December last year, and decided to suspend operations in February this year. Students of this school recently organized a self-help meeting, demanding that they be able to graduate from their alma mater. They are worried that after transferring to another school, their courses and learning will not be continued. The school has also expressed embarrassment about the plight of students, and mentioned that the current school establishment fund has been used to operate the school. After deducting the arrears of subsidies, it can barely operate until July.

Taiwan’s education department stated that there are currently 220 students in the Taiwan Institute of Tourism Technology. After excluding fresh graduates, there are still 120 current students. Taking into consideration the students’ rights to study, after the suspension plan is approved, students will be assisted to transfer. As for the transfer method, the main method is to place students in private technical colleges in neighboring counties and cities. In terms of

teaching staff, the school has a total of 9 full-time teachers. They can use relevant platforms to be referred to other units to continue serving, or to handle severance or retirement in accordance with relevant regulations. As for the 17 staff, the school will consolidate the manpower required by the school after the closure and hire them based on the actual situation, or handle severance or retirement in accordance with the relevant regulations on the island.
