Wang Shouqing was born in Fujian, China in 1954. He moved to Hong Kong in 1978 and studied modern art at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in London in 1992. Wimbledon College of Art, London, UK.

His works have been exhibited many times in the UK, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Malaysia . In 2000, he was invited to participate in the "World Art Exhibition" of the Ministry of Culture in Paris, France. The work "Hong Kong Life" won the only highest excellence award in Hong Kong at the "Third Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition" held in Beijing in 2003. Wang is currently the Vice Chairman and Artistic Director of the Hong Kong International Artists Association, the Board Chairman of the Hong Kong Art Commune and the China Chairman of the International Art Village (Res Artist).


Wang Shouqing's "Subconscious Series" is a conceptual work that solely uses personal subconsciousness to guide creation. Each work of

is full of filled-in writing and graffiti. Each layer of covers the entire picture. With the layers superimposed, the previous colors become faint and the picture becomes softer and mysterious. The interweaving of speed, density and texture of paint adds to the complexity of the visual effect, creating a slight sense of floating.

In the early days of creating the "Subconscious" series, Wang Shouqing adopted minimalism in the use of colors, giving the pictures a very unified tone. Until 2021, he tried to add ideas, color and consciousness to this series, making the new batch of works colorful.

The blocks of color are uniformly free and disorderly, and reveal traces of brush strokes left between rendering and overlaying. When the paint is semi-dry, the artist uses crayons to scribble on the surface as usual, creating scratches at the same time so that the colors of the crayon and the underlying pigments intertwine. The same treatment of makes these works more confrontational, and the brushstrokes also greatly change the original rhythm of the pictures, creating another intriguing effect.
