Taipower will start major construction next year
TSMC will set up a new 3-nanometer fab in Tainan, which is expected to start trial production in 2021 and mass production in the second half of 2022. Taipower's next year's budget document shows that there are 7 major construction projects, with a capital expenditure of about 74.6 billion yuan, including the Tai Tam Power Plant's additional gas-fired compound cycle unit power generation plan, the Xiehe Power Plant renewal and reconstruction plan, and the Xingda Power Plant gas unit Renewal and reconstruction plan, Taichung Power Plant’s new gas-fired unit plan, offshore wind power phase II plan, offshore wind power power grid strengthening phase I plan, Nanke ultra-high voltage power transmission and transformation plan, etc.
Among them, many plans such as the expansion of the Nanke ultra-high voltage substation and the second phase of the North District power transmission and transformation project will be carried out next year. The purpose is to support corporate investment and is a major investment project to stabilize the power supply.
Taipower stated that the expansion plan of the Nanke ultra-high voltage substation is mainly due to the consideration of TSMC’s investment in the 3nm fab in Nanke. At the same time, other manufacturers in the Nanke Park have needs to expand their factories, and Taiwanese businessmen have returned to Taiwan to increase their power consumption. , therefore it is necessary to expand substation equipment to provide a stable power supply environment so that enterprises can produce without worries.
Taipower also pointed out that in the next five years, Nuclear Power Plant No. 2 and Nuclear Power Plant No. 3 will be decommissioned one after another. After decommissioning, Nuclear Power Plant No. 2 and Nuclear Power Plant No. 3 will each reduce their installation capacity by nearly 2 million kilowatts, and their annual power generation will be approximately 15 billion to 1.6 billion yuan each. 100 million kilowatt-hours, and domestic electricity consumption will grow, and some old traditional units need to be updated. Therefore, Xiehe, Xingda and Taichung Power Plants are all newly built gas-fired units, while Datan Power Plant is expanding gas-fired compound cycle units, so new units will be added. It is worth noting that there are currently many gas-fired power plant development projects planned, and gas-fired units have entered their peak period, but some are still stuck in environmental impact assessment or development has encountered external resistance. Among them, the third natural gas receiving station, China National Petroleum Corporation, was originally scheduled to open in 2022. Gas supply began at the end of the year, but local people and environmental groups continued to protest, believing that the receiving station would damage algae reefs, which added many variables to whether the receiving station could be completed and opened as scheduled.
In the face of future changes, Taipower emphasized that it will do its best to complete the relevant projects and work hard to communicate to the extent possible.
