This major has strong application and practicality, and is closely related to the international politics major and the international relations major .

The study of diplomacy major has two aspects: one is general diplomatic theory and practice, and the other is specific country's foreign policy. In theory, it studies the nature, goals and types of diplomacy; in practice, it mainly studies diplomatic means and techniques, diplomatic etiquette and norms, etc.

Employment situation

This major is relatively unpopular, and the employment situation is very average. As for the job you will pursue in the future, the more ideal ones are to engage in foreign affairs diplomacy, policy research, external publicity, etc. in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or engage in international news gathering and editing in a news unit. But this is just an ideal state. The reality is very cruel. As far as I know, few people can achieve such a state.

As far as our classmates are concerned, most of them work in some foreign companies and engage in some English-related work. After all, the professional courses during school are half English and half Chinese. Some students also took the postgraduate entrance examination in other directions. The last remaining students are candidates for civil service or public institutions. But it’s very difficult to get into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or something like that.

Main learning courses

Our courses are relatively boring. In terms of professional courses, half are in English and half are in Chinese. Most of the courses are political, so being good at political science is an important prerequisite.

The main courses studied during college are: Diplomacy, International Relations Theory, Contemporary Chinese Diplomacy, Introduction to International Politics, History of International Relations, Contemporary International Politics and Multilateral Diplomacy, International Law and International Organizations, Foreign Political Systems, Religion and International Politics , Negotiation, etc. In addition to mastering basic international relations knowledge,

also needs to learn basic diplomatic etiquette, and even the customs and customs of various countries.

3. If you choose the diplomacy major because you want to enter the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, give up as soon as possible. Among all our graduates, only a very few outstanding students may be admitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

4. Foreign-related personnel need to have a systematic and comprehensive understanding of international affairs and Chinese diplomacy, and they need to have a broad knowledge base, which means that you have to memorize many, many books.

Foreign Affairs University is a university affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that specializes in training diplomacy, foreign affairs, and foreign-related economics. It is considered the "cradle" for training diplomats. However, the Foreign Affairs University is a very small school. You can walk around in 10 minutes. Once you are admitted to this school, you will know how small the campus is. In addition, foreign language universities such as Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Beijing Foreign Studies University have this major, mainly relying on the university's foreign language advantages.

If you can tolerate loneliness and relatively boring courses, and your English is very good and you are well-read, you can consider applying; if you don't like politics and can't tolerate boring courses, then you should not consider our major.
