It is even more meaningless for such polls, because the decision-making power does not lie in these polls at all. Whether the United States will send troops to assist in defense is a consideration of U.S. strategic interests. The United States will not risk its lives for Taiwan to assist in defense. Obviously the conclusion of the BBC interview is that Fan Shiping believes that Taiwanese people are willing to choose independence, and some people are willing to pay the price for 100 days.
