Unilever Benelux's new headquarters is located in the Hofplatz in the center of Rotterdam. Designed by architect C. A. Abspoel in 1960, the building has a striking concrete structure. The new Unilever headquarters designed by Mecanoo occupies six floors of the building and can accommodate approximately 750 employees.

Lobby
Entering the sixth floor of the building, people are greeted by the Lipton Bar, which will showcase beautiful views of the city. An interior staircase in the bar provides access to all floors, and full-height spaces throughout each floor form a hub between different departments and employees.

Upon entering the lobby, the space immediately stands out. The event space and restaurant in the lobby are multi-functional and allow employees to host events, lectures and lunches. In addition, the space also serves informal meetings and work, so that various functions can be integrated into a working environment.

The workplaces of various Unilever departments are located on this "street", each with its own identity, brand and character traits, forming Shops on the "street". Brand departments such as beauty and personal care, home care, refreshments and food have their own characteristics, creating different atmospheres and forming hot spots for displaying and testing products.

Activity-based working
Work, meetings, phone calls, consultations, presentations, other functions and break-out areas are combined into an activity-based work environment where employees can Find the right place for different activities at any time. The space not only promotes collaboration and knowledge exchange, but more movement is also beneficial to employees’ health.

Industrial nature
The design highlights the industrial character of the building through materials. Black steel, oak , cast flooring and ceramic tiles form a neutral backdrop, providing space for displaying Unilever’s products and marketing.

The design scope for the new Unilever Benelux headquarters covers floors 4 to 9 of the existing building, covering the entrance area, various types of workplaces, restaurant, lobby, theatre, auditorium, Lipton Bar , Unilever brand kitchen and product display area and other different spaces, totaling 8,400 square meters.
