After watching this 18㎡ “chimney” old house renovation, I only have the most envy!

This is the home of a Vietnamese couple. The house is a self-built old house left by their parents. The entire house covers an area of only 18 square meters. From the appearance, it looks as slender as a chimney. The narrow space also brings great design difficulties. The couple found a well-known local designer. The only requirement for is to increase functionality as much as possible on the existing area.

The house has been disrepaired. The designer's renovation order is from the outside to the inside. First, it is necessary to strengthen the building itself and appropriately add some glass windows to make the cramped space more spacious. Indoors use every inch of space efficiently to improve living functionality.

//Design Highlights//

  • ① Thickened exterior walls and added thermally insulated glass windows, which can not only improve lighting, but also reduce indoor influences by outdoor temperature.
  • ② The house is planned on the fourth floor, the first floor is the guest kitchen, the second floor is the master bedroom, the third floor is the children's room, and the fourth floor is the mini vegetable garden. Between the first and second floors, mezzanine floor slabs are added to take into account the functions of leisure scenic spots and guest rooms.
  • ③ Control the area of the stairs to reduce the space occupied by the stairs.

First floor

The facade of the foyer on the first floor is made of wavy patterns, and the cement wall forms slender triangular columns, which looks very layered. A retro style wall light is installed on the upper right side of the wall to create a sense of ritual when going home.

entry door uses anti-theft sliding doors, which can be hidden against the wall after opening, allowing more natural light to be introduced into the house.

There is a height difference of 30 cm between the indoor and outdoor floors on the first floor. In order to facilitate the owner to push the cart into the home, the designer specially made a stainless steel inclined ladder, and used the slope to push the cart effortlessly.

Functionally, the first floor integrates three main functions: living room, dining room and kitchen, and a bathroom is designed under the stairs.

L type locker design not only replaces dining chairs and sofas, but also has a certain storage space inside; cabinet is "hidden and exposed", has strong storage capacity, and the walls are decorated with painted bricks, which is full of atmosphere.

Stairs

Stairs as a connection to every inch of space is essential. But the designer did not want to occupy too much indoor area because of the existence of the stairs to avoid affecting other functions, so he controlled the width of the stairs to within 50 cm.

From a design perspective, the stairs adopt the "combination of virtual and real" method, and the real ladder and the suspended ladder appear alternately, which is both beautiful and improves the overall safety.

handrail uses extremely thin stainless steel pipe , which makes the visual feel lighter; minimalist wind wall lights are installed on the walls to enhance the lighting of the stair area at night.

From the first floor to the third floor, there is a bathroom on each floor. Interior windows are made on the sides of the bathrooms on the second and third floors, which can introduce natural light to the stairs.

Second floor

Second floor is the master bedroom and the room of the homeowner and his wife. Before arriving on the second floor, we will first see a mezzanine, which is located between the first and second floors, taking into account the functions of the viewing and leisure area and the guest rooms.

  • is actually a simple floor slab covered with wooden veneers, and the area occupied is less than 3 square meters.
  • A storage board is installed in front of the outdoor window, which serves as a bookshelves, and children's textbooks and extracurricular books are placed here.

The child has just entered kindergarten and cannot sleep alone. He is currently sleeping in the same room as the homeowner and his wife.

designer has added a small bed above the master bedroom tatami bed . Even in the same room, children can develop the habit of sleeping independently from an early age.

The second floor bathroom is equipped with mirror sliding doors, which not only facilitates the owner to organize his outfits and makeup, but also plays a role in enlarging the visual space.

There is still some space under the small bed. The designer fixed the storage board along the wall, and another small bookshelves. The white cabinet next to

is a toy cabinet for children, which contains various toys. Although the cabinet is not big, it is very capable of installing.

Third floor

The functional positioning of the third floor is children's room. When the child grows up, he can also have an independent bedroom. The design of the

background wall is "same as the kitchen". It has laid small flower tiles of different styles, full of retro and artistic atmosphere.

  • A part of the space is specially left between the wall and the stairs, increasing the interaction between family members.
  • side walls use high-level horizontal windows instead of vertical windows, which improves the privacy of the room while ensuring lighting.

Fourth floor

Fourth floor was originally a roof. After soliciting the street consent, the designer used half of the roof space to build a mini vegetable garden, allowing the owner to grow vegetables at home, realizing the freedom of fruits and vegetables.

in leisure time, and the owner also likes to take his daughter to the top floor to see the scenery, bask in the sun, and enjoy a comfortable time at home.

When night falls, the lights and stars in the house meet, and beauty is so close!
