LoCa Studio recently completed the "Library", which is located in a renovated four-story building in Barcelona, Spain. The home is named after the owners’ love for urban vitality and the need for a protected spacious residence, where the architects converted the four floors of the existing building into a single residence with breathable space and conducted careful architectural intervention from the interior.

Starting with the existing structure, the continuity of the material must be maintained by re-arranged the hierarchy of the space. To this end, the studio removed the floors, tripled the open space and created internal fluidity. Thus, extending existing materials, such as wood, to new floors and diffusing the modern style to the old rooms gives the final architectural layout a sense of unity.

The first step in renovating a house is to create space between the living room on the first floor and the studio on the first floor. The architects at LoCa Studios created openings to optimize natural light and emphasize the connection between common areas. The second dual space connects to the studio with newly added floors, blending all three main floors through wall art, books, natural light and breathable design.

Meanwhile, the basement maintains its privacy and independence as a bunker and provides a quiet space for reading and relaxation. It is directly connected to the private garden and an exterior patio with wooden outdoor dining tables for friends and family to enjoy.
