Time flies so fast, National Day is coming soon. October is the last peak season for the year of orchid . Of course, this peak season is different from spring and summer. There are many orchid growth that will not be directly reflected in appearance.
Recently, I received information from many Lanyou. Interestingly, most of these information reflect a problem. I have cymbidium that I have been raising for four or five years at home, and I have never seen it bloom. How to make it bloom? Start operations after National Day. Is it possible to have buds born this year?
Regarding this issue, I have actually talked about it in previous articles and videos, and maybe I don’t talk about the operation details in very detailed. In fact, it is completely time to deal with these unblooming cymbidium in October. As long as you know some skills, it is not difficult to see Cymbidium bloom next year.
These skills are not difficult, even novice Lanyou can do it. Simply put, it is commonly used in orchid cultivation: water, fertilizer, light, and warmth.
1. Increase light
Most of the vigorous orchids that have not bloomed for several years are due to lack of light. Sunlight can not only sterilize and produce photosynthetic products, but also stimulate the reproductive information of orchids. Especially Cymbidium, which requires a larger amount of light compared to other orchids. Starting from October, let Huilan have no less than 4 hours of direct light per day (no shade net required). If you are worried that the sunlight at noon is too strong to burn the leaves, you will arrange the light reception time in the morning.
2. Increase phosphorus elements
Generally speaking, the nutrients used in orchids need to be balanced, especially phosphorus and potassium. However, special cases are treated with special treatment. Cymbidium, which has not bloomed for several years, needs the stimulation of phosphorus. It is recommended to use 100 times superphosphate leaching solution (or 600 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution) and water it twice in a row, with an interval of about 15-20 days.
3. Increase the temperature difference
If the maintenance environment allows, put the cymbidium outdoors at night and let orchid leaves full of shower gel. Dew can not only replenish the water of orchid plants, but also clean the dust on orchid leaves so that the orchid leaves can breathe better. More importantly, the temperature difference in outdoor nights in autumn can allow the nutrients absorbed by orchids during the day to accumulate to a greater extent. After all, it takes a lot of energy to bloom in the cymbidium buds.
4. Reduce watering
Orchids need to control water during bud pregnancy, and the same is true for Cymbidium. There has been no water control management before, and it was still time in October. Control water appropriately. Let the orchid feel a little survival crisis, which is conducive to the differentiation of flower buds. Otherwise, the orchid leaves and seedlings will continue to grow, affecting the germination of flower buds. That is, the term often says, converting orchids from vegetative growth to reproductive growth mode.
5. "Frozen" more and less heat preservation
After the above 4 steps, I believe that in mid-to-late November, your cymbidium will see the buds. Management cannot be relaxed at this time, otherwise it may fail. After November, the biggest "enemy" of the management of Cymbidium flower buds is also a common mistake made by novice orchid friends, which may be too warm. Premature insulation is not only not conducive to the cherry blossom transformation of the orchid buds, but may also lead to the disappearance of the flower in the middle.
Cymbidium is a very frost-resistant plant. Cymbidium in the place of origin can even tolerate temperatures of minus 8 degrees Celsius or even lower in winter. Of course, this is related to the long-standing resistance exercise of natural orchids, and the fallen leaves, soil, wind direction and light in the native place are related to certain aspects. Domestic orchids will definitely have lower resistance than natural orchids, but they can be completely adapted to low temperatures above zero degrees.
Raising orchids is actually nothing more than the key points of soil, water, fertilizer, light and warm. No matter what orchids, at most, there are some changes in the demand at each key point. As long as your Cymbidium is strong and healthy, no matter how many years it has not bloomed, as long as you follow the above 5 items, you will definitely see blooming next year.
