UL790 test standard measures the relative fire resistance properties of roof coverings exposed to the exterior of a building to a simulated fire source. It applies to roof coverings intended for installation on combustible or non-combustible roof decks. There are five test methods according to the standard. There are three levels in each test method. The levels are different, and the test methods and sample requirements are different. The specific reference is as follows:
Full name of the standard:
UL790 Standard test methods for fire tests of roof coverings
UL790 Standard test methods for fire tests of roof coverings
test methods :
Intermittent flame exposure test/Intermittent flame exposure test.
Flame spread test/Spread of flame test.
Roof burning test/Burning brand test.
Flying fire test/Flying brand test.
Rain test / Rain test.
Level classification Scope of application:
Class A test is suitable for the following roof coverings: expected to be effective Resistant to severe fires, provides a high degree of fire protection to the roof deck, will not slip from position and is not expected to pose a flying fire hazard.
Class B testing is applicable to roof coverings that are expected to be effective in resisting moderate fire exposure, provide moderate fire protection to the roof deck, will not slip from position and will not pose a risk of flying fire. The
Class C test is for roof coverings that are effective against minor fires, provide light fire protection to the roof deck, will not slip from position and are not expected to pose a flash fire hazard.
