I followed his instructions and saved a lot of money.

[Element 1] The painting direction should be vertical

The waterproof layer of the bathroom needs to be painted several times, but the "painting" here is not like latex paint, where the same action is repeated. Instead, the direction of each painting needs to be vertical - the direction of each painting must be consistent.

For example, when applying waterproofing for the first time, the brush should be applied horizontally. During the painting process this time, the brush should be applied horizontally. You can't brush it horizontally several times and then brush it vertically several times.

For the second waterproofing, the direction of the brush must be vertical to the first time, that is, brushing vertically. By painting vertically in this way, the upper layer can cover up the holes created by the lower layer during painting.

[Element 2] Brush at least 3 times

Brush is waterproof, generally speaking "brush at least twice". But that doesn’t mean you’ll be fine after two coats of waterproofing – strictly speaking, there’s a third coat.

The third time of waterproofing does not need to cover the entire ground like the first two times. The third coat of waterproofing is actually a process of repairing leaks: when applying the third coat of waterproofing, focus on checking the missing parts on the ground, edges of pipes, corners, etc.

Even if the waterproof layer is not damaged in these corners, it should be brushed again. The adhesion of waterproofing agent in these corners is relatively low. If you only apply it twice, even if it is fine at the time, it will easily cause tears in these corners after a few years of use.

[Element 3] The more times you paint, the better.

The person said, since I have money, I might as well paint it a few more times - paint it ten times to make it waterproof, okay? The answer is no! The more times you apply the

waterproofing agent, the better. Generally, it is enough to apply it two or three times, and finally fill up the leaks (corner reinforcement) once. Only after the waterproofing agent dries can it become a waterproof layer.

Applying too many times will result in insufficient drying of the underlying waterproofing agent. In the future, water will slowly evaporate in the waterproof layer, and the water vapor can easily break through the waterproof layers above, making it more likely to leak.

[Element 4] "Drying" is very important

Since the drying problem of waterproofing agent has been mentioned, let me say a few more words. The waterproofing agent is applied layer by layer. If you don't apply one layer, it needs to sit for a period of time (usually 24 hours). Wait for this layer of waterproofing agent to dry before applying another layer.

24 hours, only the surface of the waterproof layer has completed drying. If the surface is not dry, the bottom layer of waterproofing agent will be destroyed when the upper layer of waterproofing agent is applied.

If you want it to dry completely, you need to wait 3 days. Therefore, within 3 days after applying the waterproofing agent, try not to enter the bathroom to reduce damage to the waterproof layer.

Remember the time: During construction, you have to wait 24 hours for each layer; after the construction is completed, you need to wait at least 3 days. The "3 days" period can be extended to half a month or a year (just pay attention to protecting the waterproof layer during this period). "24 hours" cannot be extended. The longer the time, the dirtier the surface of the waterproof layer will be. If the surface of the waterproof layer is dirty, it will affect the adhesion of the waterproof agent above it.

[Element 5] Wall waterproofing height

There is a minimum standard for wall waterproofing height: at least 1.8m in the shower area; at least 30cm above the countertop near the countertop; and at least 30cm on other walls.

But here’s a question: Where is the shower area? If the shower area is below the shower head, how much area around the shower head is considered the shower area? Sorry, there is no accurate answer in the standard.

So if your home has a shower room or shower curtain, the "shower area" is easy to judge: the part inside the partition is considered the shower area. If there is no dry and wet separation, it is recommended that the entire bathroom wall be waterproofed to 1.8m.

The previous construction elements are all designed to allow everyone to spend less money, but here it is recommended to spend more money: now the cost of waterproofing is very low, even if the entire bathroom wall is covered, it will not cost much more, and the price-performance ratio is extremely high .
