war can be said to be a commonplace in ancient times. A war can be destroyed by an emperor with dozens or hundreds of years of painstaking management. In addition to a large amount of manpower, horses also played a very important role. To say that the most trusted by the emperor on the battlefield is not the generals, but the horses. The Tang Dynasty is a legendary dynasty in the history of our country, and when it comes to horses in the Tang Dynasty, you have to talk about the six horses of Emperor Taizong. In the last few years of Tang Taizong's reign, he did not hesitate to spend a lot of manpower and material resources on the three fronts of China at the same time. Accompanied by Tang Taizong's campaign, there were six outstanding steeds.
The six horses
that have survived for thousands of years all say that “time makes heroes”. Sometimes wars also make horses. Every reversal of the battle is inseparable from a good horse. After the war, Emperor Taizong ordered the court craftsman painters to make reliefs of the six outstanding horses on the battlefield, and decorate these reliefs in his mausoleum as a companion. These reliefs are the famous Zhaoling Six Horses. Zhaoling is the tomb of Emperor Taizong Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty, and the six horses are carved on the east and west sides of the altar in the north of Zhaoling. Each stone carving is about 2 meters wide and 1.7 meters high. There are six horses, each of which is very beautiful in shape and has smooth carving lines. They are precious stone carvings in ancient times. It can be said that these are six horses that have survived for thousands of years.
Zhaoling Six Horses
As everyone knows, Tang Taizong Li Shimin was a cavalry general, so he can be said to be very enthusiastic about horses. At that time, the main source of war horses was the Turks, which can be seen from the names of the six horses, "Fisting Fist", "Shivachi", "White-tied Crow", "Telehua", "Qing Zhan", "Salu" purple". There are some names that people don’t know why, but if they are translated in Turkic, it’s not weird. For example, "Saluzi", Turkic "isbasa", meaning warrior. With the changes in history, the six stone-carved steeds that were originally mounted by Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty have also been preserved. It was not until the beginning of the last century that this intact history was destroyed by tomb robbers.
Sudden disaster
my country’s modern history is a tortuous and difficult history, not only for us, but also for our cultural relics. Great powers invaded our country’s territory and plundered our cultural relics. In 1912, foreign invaders instigated our country's cultural relics to steal the two horses-"Saluzi" and "Fisting Fist" from Zhaoling, Shaanxi, and they were intercepted when they were transported. After tossing and turning, Er Jun fell into the hands of Lu Qinzhai, an antique dealer in my country. At this time, the two horses had been damaged. The tomb raiders split the two horses into several pieces in order to facilitate transportation. The handsome and graceful horse suffered a sudden disaster.
$125,000 transaction
In March 1918, the curator of the University of Pennsylvania Museum was very excited when he saw Erjun being transported to the United States for the first time, and he wrote to Lu Qinzhai, wanting to buy it. As a businessman, Lu Qinzhai expressed his willingness to make a deal in the face of interests. He bid for 150,000 US dollars. After two years of raising, Er Jun fell into the hands of foreigners, and the final transaction price was 125,000 US dollars. Today, Er Jun is still collected in the Museum of the University of Pennsylvania. Six of Tang Taizong’s favorite horses, and six exquisite stone carvings in Zhaoling, were dismembered after being stolen by the tomb thief. They were sold for 125,000 US dollars and lost overseas. Why not be sad.
