2009 marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. my country has selected 100 heroes and models. They have all made outstanding contributions to the New China in their own different ways. Zhang Xueliang is one of them. In 2001, the young marshal, who was a hundred years old, passed away peacefully in the United States. His biggest regret before his death was that he could not return to his hometown to take a look.
Since the Xi'an Incident in 1936, his life can be said to have been pressed by the pause button. From then on, he has been imprisoned for more than half a century, and it was not until 1990 that he began to restore freedom.

Zhang Xueliang was born in 1901. His father gave him the nickname "Xiao Xizi" and he loved him very much. However, he was in poor health since he was a child, so he was sent to the temple by his father to be a monk for several years, saying that this would lead to a hundred years of life. Perhaps it was really useful. Zhang Xueliang later really lived to be one hundred years old.
After coming out of the temple, his father changed his name to him "Xiao Liuzi" and gave him the name "Xueliang". My father has no education and can be said to have high hopes for this eldest son. "Xueliang" also imitates the meaning of "Hanchu Zhang Liang , hoping that he can be a cultural person.
After Zhang Xueliang was born, his family was still quite poor. However, with his father's success, the life of the Zhang family was getting better and better. His father married several concubines and entered the house. However, no matter how many younger brothers and sisters are there, no matter how the aunts compete for favor, they cannot threaten Zhang Xueliang's position.
Although Zhang Xueliang has a bad temper and is still naughty, he reads well. With the recommendation of his father, he not only learned English, but also met many foreign friends, including his close friend Iyager and This British man born in the United States came to the Northeast with his uncle to provide technical support for the construction of the railway.
Zhang Xueliang and Yiyage have a good relationship. As his plenipotentiary, most of the arms business in the Northeast was handed over to Yiyage. Zhang Xueliang was very accurate in his view. After he was in trouble, Yiyagra tried every means to save him, spending a lot of money. Seeing that the rescue failed, he took care of the Zhang family as much as possible over the years and provided a lot of financial assistance.

After his father was killed by the Japanese, Zhang Xueliang took over his father's position and became the actual ruler of the Northeast. Taking into account the overall situation of the country, he declared obedience to Nanjing National Government, urging China to move from the situation to unification.
After the Xi'an Incident in 1936, Zhang Xueliang ignored the opposition of our party and family and insisted on sending Chiang Kai-shek back to Nanjing. As a result, he was detained as soon as he got off the plane and was sent to military court for trial.
Before going to court, Zhang Xueliang was detained in Jiming Temple . Whether it was eating, sleeping or being convenient, there were heavy troops to monitor him. He was under tremendous pressure and had wanted to express his indignation in the form of suicide.
wife Yu FengzhiAfter knowing her husband’s thoughts, she wrote a letter to encourage him that the purpose of launching military advice is just and is considered for the survival of the country. Therefore, you must openly say that you are innocent in court and save your life, otherwise you will be sorry for your dead father. Zhang Xueliang gave up the idea of committing suicide.
In court, the presiding judge asked Zhang Xueliang if he knew what crime he had committed. He replied that he didn't know and refuted the series of crimes listed by the presiding judge one by one. When the presiding judge accused Northeast Army of of not resisting the Japanese army, Zhang Xueliang said that he was ordered not to resist and was given a lawsuit on his behalf. As soon as this statement was made, the whole audience was in an uproar and the trial was immediately terminated.
In the end, Zhang Xueliang was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but on the afternoon of the verdict, Chiang Kai-shek submitted an application to pardon Zhang. Later, the government agreed that the punishment would become strict control of him. However, this strict control was more painful than going to jail. It took more than half a century of restraint.

After regaining freedom, Zhang Xueliang really wanted to go back to the mainland to see it, but judging from the situation on both sides of the Taiwan Strait at that time, it was very difficult. In 1991, the young marshal's former subordinate, Lu Zhengcao, came to the United States to visit Zhang Xueliang.
General Lu expressed to him the idea that the leaders of the Communist Party of China invited him to come back to the mainland for a look. Young Marshal said that he has been thinking about his hometown for many years. If he could go back, he put forward three conditions: the first is not to hold a welcome ceremony, the second is not to see media reporters, and the third is to not make compliments.
Zhang Xueliang knows that his identity is sensitive and does not want to cause trouble to cross-strait relations because of himself. He said that he did not participate in political activities when he returned to his hometown, but just visited relatives and tombs. However, because he was old and physically in a state, he could not withstand long-distance flights. Secondly, it was also pressure from the Taiwanese authorities, which caused Zhang Xueliang to be regretful for life.
There have always been different opinions on the young marshal, but one thing is certain that he is patriotic, especially in the War of Resistance Against Japan. Our party has always called him a national hero and a hero for all ages. This is the best praise for him!
