Speaking of the Lin family in Huanggang, Hubei, the most familiar ones are the "Three Heroes of Lin family", namely Lin Yuying , Lin Yunan and Lin Yurong. They are cousins, among which Lin Yurong is the famous founding marshal Lin Biao. In fact, Lin Biao also has a younger brother named Lin Xiangrong, who also fought bravely for the Chinese revolution, but unfortunately he died heroically in 1949.
Lin Biao's brothers and sisters are six, and the four in the middle are four brothers, namely Qingfo, Yurong (Lin Biao), Yuju (Lin Cheng), and Xiang Rong. They are arranged according to the font size, which is exactly the four characters of "zheng, big, Guang, Ming" . Lin Biao's name is "Zuoda", and the youngest Lin Xiangrong's name is "Zuoming".
In early 1937, Lin Biao, who was then the president of the Red Army University (later Anti-United University ), finally met his third brother Lin Yuju who had been away for many years in Yan'an . Lin Biao introduced the revolutionary situation across the country to his younger brother at that time and encouraged his younger brothers to participate in the revolutionary cause. He also stuffed a brochure for the Red Army University into his younger brother's hands and asked him to take it back for good publicity.
After Lin Yuju returned to his hometown, he said that he met his second brother and the whole family was very happy. Especially when he saw the admission brochure brought back by Lin Yuju, the brothers and nephews of Lin Biao were very excited. Lin Biao's younger brother Lin Xiangrong immediately decided to sign up for the revolution. So, Lin Xiangrong summoned nine young people to rush to Yan'an, the revolutionary holy land, including Lin Biao's nephew Lin Xinran and nephew Chen Dezhi.
Shortly after Lin Xiangrong came to Yan'an, his brother Lin Biao severely damaged the Japanese army in Pingxingguan , breaking the myth of "the Japanese army is invincible". With this, Lin Biao became a famous anti-Japanese general. Seeing the achievements made by his brother, Lin Xiangrong was envious and thought that he must take his brother as an example and make more contributions to the revolution.
However, Lin Biao was accidentally injured by the sentry of Yan Xishan on his way back to Yan'an, so he went to the Soviet Union for treatment, and Lin Xiangrong became a student of the fourth phase of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. After graduating from
, Lin Xiangrong was assigned to Jinchaji Border Region as deputy company commander. After the beginning of the Liberation War, Lin Xiangrong had become a regiment commander and was the first regiment commander of the 590th Regiment. He was still active in Jinchaji Military Region . Lin Xiangrong led his troops to participate in the battles of the Liberation of Shijiazhuang, Suiyuan and other battles. After Pingjin Battle, , Lin Xiangrong was ordered to launch a battle against Zhangjiakou , and captured the commander of the 271st Division of the Kuomintang Army alive, Zhang Jianshe and Liang Chao, and Liang Chao, deputy division commander of the Kuomintang army alive.
Lin Xiangrong only took 16 hours to this battle, setting a record for the first time that the entire column had annihilated the entire enemy division.
In April 1949, Lin Xiangrong led his troops to the northern suburbs of Taiyuan, and the battle to liberate Taiyuan was about to start. When the troops arrived at a chemical factory, it was an important stronghold on the enemy's northern suburbs defense line. Unexpectedly, before the battle started, the enemy raised the white flag and proposed to discuss. In order to reduce the losses of the army, Lin Xiangrong volunteered to lead a platoon to test.
Unexpectedly, when Lin Xiangrong was about to reach the enemy's position, he was attacked violently by the enemy and was forced to a "jedi" without any danger. Although he was in a desperate situation, Lin Xiangrong still tried to counterattack. The guard was shot and fell down. When Lin Xiangrong stepped forward to rescue, he was hit by the enemy's bullet and died on the spot.
The leaders of the 197th Division were very sad when they learned about this, so the political department of the division drafted a letter of condolence to Lin Biao. Facing the sacrifice of his younger brother, Lin Biao said: "It is completely understandable to sacrifice for the revolution, which is completely understandable!"
This year, Lin Xiangrong was only 33 years old, and it was only six months before New China founded .
Although Lin Biao deviated from Marxism-Leninism in his later years and stood opposite to the party and the people, objectively speaking, Lin Biao, his brothers Lin Yuying, Lin Yunan, and his younger brother Lin Xiangrong and others made significant contributions during the revolutionary period, which we cannot deny.
Lin Biao's cousin Lin Hanxiong (Lin Yuying's son) once said:
"Lin Biao is the youngest among the marshals. In 1971, at the age of 64, he fell from the peak to the bottom. In recent years, he has returned to his position, and the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Museum has fair evaluations of him. From this point of view, I think the Lin family has made contributions."
