Zhangwan District originally belonged to the Maoping Commune of Huanglong District and Chadian District under the jurisdiction of Yun County. On June 6, 1967, the Hubei Provincial Front Command for Promoting Revolution and Promoting Production approved the establishment of the Shiyan Office in Yunxian County. The above-mentioned district and community were assigned to the office management of Yunxian County (Shiyan District was also assigned to the Shiyan District). In December of the same year, it was renamed as the Yunyang Shiyan Office, which was affiliated to the Yunyang Regional Leaders. On December 1, 1969, the Hubei Provincial Revolutionary Committee decided to establish Shiyan City , which is still the leader of Yunyang Regional Leaders. In February 1973, Shiyan City was upgraded to a provincial municipality. In May 1984, with the approval of the State Council, the community was abolished and established in Zhangwan District (county level), with four street offices in Toutiao, Hongwei, Checheng and Tumen. In October 1986, with the approval of Hubei Provincial People's Government, the two district offices of Huaguo and Bailang in Shiyan City were abolished, and all the districts of Huaguo and Bailang were under the jurisdiction of Huaguo District and the two townships of Donggou and Maoping under the jurisdiction of Bailang District were merged with Zhangwan District, and the new Zhangwan District has been established to this day.
