Sichuan zoning adjustment is a relatively complex province in my country.

First of all, the changes in provincial-level political regions are relatively frequent. Because the time of liberation in various parts of Sichuan is inconsistent, several administrative offices including , eastern Sichuan, and southern Sichuan were established in Sichuan in the early days of the founding of New China.

1952, these offices were merged into Sichuan Province. However, after this, Sichuan has undergone several major changes.

One was in 1954, Chongqing Municipality was abolished and became a municipality under Sichuan. Of course, there will be restoration after the abolition. Chongqing Municipality was established here in 1997, of course this is a later story.

One was abolished in 1955, Xikang Province, and its Xichang , Ya'an , Ganzi, and Liangshan Prefecture were assigned to Sichuan.

After these two changes, Sichuan's territory has undergone great changes.

In addition to external changes, the zoning adjustments in Sichuan Province have also undergone great changes. Initially, Sichuan had 3 prefecture-level cities and more than 10 special districts.

Today, Sichuan has 21 prefecture-level political regions, which are consistent with Guangdong and rank first in the country. There are some prefecture-level political regions here, which were formed later through splitting.

Today, what we are focusing on introducing to you is the Daxian District, because it split into two prefecture-level cities. After decades of development, the situation of these two cities is also very different.

Daxian Special District: Split into the current Dazhou City and Bazhong City

In 1950, Daxian Special District was established and belongs to the Sichuan Provincial Administrative Inspection District. In 1952, after the establishment of New Sichuan Province, it was still a subsidiary of Daxian District.

In 1953, after the Dazhu Special Zone was abolished, the three counties under it were classified as Daxian Special Zone. At this time, Daxian District had 11 counties under its jurisdiction, with the largest area.

, from the name, it's a bit weird. The special district is a prefecture-level political district, but it is also named after a county. In fact, this phenomenon was quite common at that time.

Because the special area is generally named after the resident, the Daxian District's special area was located in Daxian at that time. Daxian County was established as a city very late, so the name lasted for a long time.

In 1976, Daxian County and surrounding counties were separated and Daxian City was established. At this time, it was still a county-level city. The name of the resident was not changed, so it was still called Daxian District (later the national unified area was changed to the area).

At this time, although the number of counties and cities under the jurisdiction increased by 1, it was obtained from the internal division, so the external scope did not expand.

In 1993, Daxian City was renamed Dachuan City, and Daxian District was also renamed Dachuan District. In the same year, a relatively large-scale split was carried out, and Bazhong was upgraded to a prefecture-level city. At the same time, 33 counties of Tongjiang , Nanjiang , and Pingchang HTML were separated. This was equivalent to a reduction of 4 counties and cities in the Dachuan area.

In 1999, the Dachuan area was renamed Dazhou City.

So now Dazhou City and Bazhong City are two prefecture-level cities separated from the original Daxian District.

has a history of 29 years since its split in 1993. After 29 years of development, what is the situation in the two prefecture-level cities?

2 prefecture-level cities have different developments today. One city has a population of 3rd in the province. Today, Dazhou City has a total of 4 counties, 2 districts and 1 city. The permanent population of Qipu is 5.39 million, ranking third in the province, and about 200,000 fewer than the second place Nanchong City .

Bazhong City now has 2 districts and 3 counties, with a permanent population of 2.71 million, ranking 14th in the province and is a city with a relatively small population.

According to the total population of the two cities, , , has exceeded 5 million, while Bazhong has less than 2.8 million people, and Dazhou's total population is almost twice that of Bazhong.

We know that although Sichuan has a large population, Chengdu accounts for too high a proportion. At the time of Qipu, Chengdu's permanent population had exceeded 20 million, and 5.82 million people have flowed in in the past ten years, which is a very high increase.

In 2021, Chengdu continued to maintain a high population growth trend, so the total population of Sichuan cities and cities is relatively unoptimistic. There are only two cities with a population of more than 5 million, namely Nanchong and Dazhou. There are 10 cities and prefectures with populations below 3 million.

Dazhou and Bazhong are both separated from the same special area. Why are there such great differences in development between the two places in terms of population situation?

Although there are not many counties and cities under Dazhou, there are many counties with large populations, with 5 of them exceeding 800,000. The core of the site is Daxian, the former Daxian District, which is located in Daxian District, which is very large in scale. Although it is now divided into two districts, with a total population of 1.8 million, so Dazhou has the advantage.

Let’s take a look at Bazhong City. At that time, there were fewer counties and cities that were split from Daxian District, so this must be in a weak position. Among the counties and cities under Bazhong, there is no large county with a population of more than 800,000. The most populous , Bazhou District, has 650,000 people, which is quite different from the various counties, cities and districts of Dazhou.

In addition to the population differences, the current economic development situation of the two places is also different. Dazhou City's GDP has reached 235.1 billion, ranking 7th in the province.

, while Bazhong City has only 74.2 billion, ranking third from the bottom in the province.

The reason why Dazhou and Bazhong have been very different after 29 years of development is mainly due to the advantages of transportation location.

After Chongqing was upgraded to a municipality, Wanzhou became the most important transportation hub in northern Chongqing. Dazhou and Wanzhou are adjacent to Wanzhou and have been clearly defined as a "national comprehensive transportation hub". There are many high-speed railways and ordinary railways intersect here.

Bazhong is located in northern Sichuan and is not on the main axis of development and transportation trunk lines, so its strength is naturally a little weaker.

What do you think about the future development prospects of these two cities?
