Wenxi County was called Tongxiang in ancient times, and was renamed Zuoyi County in Qin Dynasty. Liu Che, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, gave the name "Wenxi" when he heard about the great victory of Pingnan, which belongs to Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province. Wenxi is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, at the junction of the Yuncheng Basin and the Linfen Basin. It connects with Jiangxian County and Yuanqu in the east, Houma and Xinjiang in the north, Jishan, Wanrong, and Salt Lake in the west, and the Yanhu area in the south. Xia County is adjacent.
Wenxi County has a long history. Since the change of Zuoyi Tongxiang to Wenxi, it has a history of more than 2,100 years. There are many celebrities and many historical sites. There was Pei Xiu, the father of maps in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Pei Du, the Xing Xing Xiang Xiang in the Tang Dynasty, Zhao Ding, the anti-Jin dynasty in the Song Dynasty, and Yang Shenxiu, one of the “Six Gentlemen of the Wuxu Period” in the Qing Dynasty; Written "Pinghuai West Monument".
In 1943, Jilu County was established on the border with Xia County to rule the village of Berlin at the foot of Jiwang Mountain. It belonged to the Third Special Administration of Taiyue District and was revoked in 1946. In 1947, he returned to the 11th Special Administration of Shanxi-Sui Border District. In 1949, it belonged to the Yuncheng Sub-district of Southern Shanxi District and was under the jurisdiction of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Area. After returning to Shanxi Province, it belongs to Yuncheng Prefecture. In 1954, it belonged to Jinnan Prefecture. In 1967, it belonged to the southern part of Shanxi. In 1970, it belonged to the Yuncheng area. In 2000, it was a prefecture-level Yuncheng city. In 2018, the total number of households was 130,818, with 422,160 permanent residents, 216,346 men, 205,814 women, 218,373 urban populations, and 203,787 rural populations.
