Marco Polo Bridge dates back more than 800 years. It was first built in 1189 and took four years to be completed in 1192. This bridge has never been counted since it was built. There is a rumor that "the lions on Marco Polo Bridge have been counted, and there are even more." Qianlong did not believe that he ordered the eunuchs to count them, and after some repetition Come on, the numbers reported are different. He was very angry and yelled: a bunch of drunkards.

In the end, I had to count them myself. I counted them three times in a row, but I still couldn’t count them all, so I had to return home. The number 501 is just the number engraved on the stone tablet.

A stone stele engraved with Qianlong's imperial inscription "Lugou Xiaoyue" is erected on the east side of the bridge. An imperial stele rebuilt in 1698 during the Kangxi year is erected on the west side of the bridge. There are three vaulted dragon heads called Qiu Chi on the arched dragon gate stone.
