He saw his acquaintances and said hello with a smile, claiming that the boring prison life was accompanied again.
In October 1932, Chen Duxiu was arrested by the Kuomintang authorities in Shanghai and was finally sentenced to 13 years in prison, serving his sentence in the most famous Nanjing Prison in the country. During this period, one of Chen Duxiu's most frequent actions was to care about current affairs. In prison, friends often visit, not friends from the publishing house or acquaintances in the press. Chen Duxiu, who has always cared about the current situation, often frowned, thinking about how to save China and how to wake up the sleeping Chinese. After the " July 7 Incident " broke out, the Japanese army launched a large-scale attack to the north. Nanjing under the Kuomintang rule had no time to look after the prisoners, so Chen Duxiu and others were released early.

After more than four years of prison life, Chen Duxiu was worried about the situation of the country and decided to contribute his own strength. At this time, the KMT threw out an olive branch and invited Chen Duxiu to take up a civilian job in the KMT, but he refused without hesitation. He also deliberately entrusted a few friends to contact Ye Jianying, who is in Yan'an, and expressed his hope to work in the party. Facing Mr. Chen Duxiu’s request, Ye Jianying immediately reported to Chairman Mao and the Party Central Committee. After a meeting, everyone decided to agree to Chen Duxiu’s work in Yan'an.However, many accidents happened, and Mr. Chen Duxiu finally failed to reach Yan'an as he wished.
As one of the advocates of the New Culture Movement, Chen Duxiu's role in the literati of the Republic of China is by no means ordinary, but at the same time it also attracted many controversies and was taken advantage of by those who wanted to. Because Chen Duxiu once made remarks similar to supporting Trotskyism, it caused a controversy in the newspaper that shocked the whole country. At this time, international communism headed by comrades Stalin was beginning to strongly oppose the Trotskyist movement, which made Chen Duxiu's identity extremely embarrassing. Although he had already claimed in the newspaper that he had broken away from Trotskyism, he still left a bad impression on international communism headed by Stalin.

In addition to the Trotskyist dispute, the Kuomintang reactionaries were unwilling to see Chen Duxiu return to work in the Communist Party, so they wanted Fang Shifang to obstruct it. Chiang Kai-shek first sent someone to the newspaper to hire Chen Duxiu with a high salary, and privately expressed his willingness to pay for Chen Duxiu to form a new party. He also recruited Chen Duxiu’s former friends such as Hu Shi, Fu Sinian and others. Come to persuade Chen Duxiu to join the Kuomintang government. These were all rejected by Chen Duxiu, but the Kuomintang released smoke bombs everywhere to confuse people in Yan'an, making it impossible to understand the truth, and hindering Chen Duxiu's arrival in Yan'an. This made it harder for Chen Duxiu to return to Yan'an.
However, in the end, the Party Central Committee still trusts the former secretary Chen Duxiu very much, and hopes that Mr. Chen Duxiu will come back to contribute to the revolution. However, taking into account many factors, and in order to relieve the pressure of public opinion from home and abroad, Mao After the discussion, the chairman and others decided to give Mr. Chen Duxiu a chance, but put forward three conditions: the first is to sever ties with the Trotskyists in front of the public and admit that they have joined the Trotskyists for wrongdoing; the second is to express their firm support for the Trotskyists.
