According to Bloomberg, Take-Two will close Playdots Studio in New York, USA. The studio has developed the popular mobile game "Two Dots".
Take-Two has submitted a report to the New York Department of Labor, saying the move will result in the layoffs of 65 employees in the studio.
The direct trigger for this move is obviously that Take-Two acquires Zynga for US$12.7 billion. Next, Two Dots will be redirected to Zynga, and Playdots will have the opportunity to acquire a position in the company. The future of other works under
Playdots is uncertain. In 2020, Take-Two acquired Playdots for $192 million, and at that time, Two Dots performed quite well in their quarterly financial results.
Take-Two spokesman Alan Lewis has publicly confirmed the news, saying it was a "hard decision" they made. He said: "Every employee who is affected by the decision has the opportunity to seek a position in Zynga. If he does not find a suitable position, he will receive the corresponding resignation compensation."
