Microsoft says Sony Activision protocol restricts Call of Duty to join XGP
Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard is being investigated by UK Competition and Marketing Authority (CMA). In the footnote to the CMA response, Microsoft revealed that "the agreement between Activision Blizzard and Sony, including restricting Activision Blizzard, will add the Call of Duty series to XGP within several years."
If the above statement is true and Microsoft successfully completes the acquisition, at least three new games in the "Call of Duty" series will not join XGP for a period of time. It is not clear what the claim will have on the old games in the Call of Duty series. This is not the first time that there are rumors that Sony has prevented the game from joining XGP. In a document sent by Microsoft to the Brazilian Administrative Economic Defense Commission (CADE), it accused Sony of preventing developers from joining the game to XGP or other competitive subscription services by paying.
