video game developer and publisher Riot Games announced the acquisition of Wargaming Sydney, also a game software development studio affiliated with Wargaming, a company headquartered in Cyprus, which is the publisher behind games such as " World of Tanks " and " World of Warships ".
Riot did not disclose the acquisition price.
Wargaming Sydney is one of the largest game studios in Australia and was founded in 2002 under its original name BigWorld. It was by Wargaming in 2012. The studio created game development tools and other software architectures needed to develop online games such as MMOs. After being acquired by Riot, Wargaming Sydney will be renamed Riot Sydney and will assist in the development of Riot games such as Fearless Contract and League of Legends.
Wargaming Sydney is the only business acquired by Riot Games, and other studios under Wargaming are not affected by the acquisition. Wargaming will also maintain ownership of the gaming software architecture of existing products of BigWorld technology.
Riot said the new brand Riot Sydney will become a major contributor to its development studio network. The publisher said in a press statement that it "looks forward to developing the gaming industry in Australia" and will "continue to explore similar opportunities to increase the expert talent of established studios". Wargaming Sydney's entire developers will join Riot Sydney, and the current publishing team will continue to be part of Wargaming. Developers will continue to operate in their current offices.
