Information released by the General Administration of Customs shows that in the first 11 months of this year, the top eight import channels for my country's liquefied natural gas (lNG) were: Australia, Qatar, Malaysia, Russia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the United States, and Nigeria.

Data sharing on my country's main LNG import channels

In the first 11 months of 2022, the total quantity of liquefied natural gas imported into my country was close to 5.7 million tons. The total quantity of LNG imported from the previous eight major channels was as high as 5.42372 million tons, accounting for 95.35% of the total quantity of liquefied natural gas imported into my country. The degree of concentration is very high.

Among them, Australia continues to be my country's largest channel for liquefied natural gas imports. The transaction volume in the first 11 months of this year was approximately 19.94304 million tons, which is approximately 35.06% of my country's total LNG imports. Compared with the level of about 40% in previous years, it has decreased by 5 percentage points.

Ranking second is Qatar, with a trading volume of approximately 13.89 million tons in the first 11 months of this year, accounting for approximately 24.42%; third is Malaysia, with an LNG trading volume of approximately 6.70546 million tons, approximately 11.79% of my country’s total LNG imports.

Russia ranked fourth, with a total volume of LNG imported to my country in the first 11 months of this year of 5.82366 million tons; Indonesia ranked fifth with a transaction volume of 3.38876 million tons; sixth was Papua New Guinea, which imported 229.846 tons of LNG to my country. Ten thousand tons of liquefied natural gas

The seventh place is the United States, which imported 1.74693 million tons of liquefied natural gas to my country; the total amount of liquefied natural gas shipped to my country from Nigeria, a major African energy country, was 440,820 tons, which is about 0.77% of my country's total LNG imports. Although it is still ranked eighth, there is a huge gap with the top few.

Looking at the unit price, Nigeria's LNG is the most affordable.

Although the quantity of liquefied natural gas sold by Nigeria to my country is not outstanding, it has a huge price advantage - the LNG transaction amount in the first 11 months of this year was about 1.7387 billion yuan, and the average selling price per ton of was only 3,944 yuan, which is the lowest unit price among the top eight channels.

Unfortunately, Nigeria’s liquefied natural gas production is limited. Coupled with the intensification of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the EU has increased its imports from Africa, the Middle East, North America and other places, resulting in "a significant reduction in the energy trading volume between China and Nigeria" - losing business to the EU.

The highest unit price is in Russia. The LNG transaction amount in the first 11 months was 41.0891 billion yuan, and the unit price was as high as 7,056 yuan. Compared with pipeline natural gas, the price of Russian LNG does not have a price advantage in the world. What is the reason? Nan Sheng will explain it to everyone in future articles.

Nan Sheng noticed that the average price per ton of LNG imported into my country from Australia is only 4,773 yuan, which is also very cheap. Although the selling price is higher than that of Nigeria, the export capacity of LNG between the two countries is hugely different. To a certain extent, China and Australia have natural advantages in economic and trade development.

It's just that Australia places too much emphasis on ideology, and some politicians are swayed by the "issue setting" of the United States, ignoring the economic cooperation interests between China and Australia, and are full of Cold War mentality . Normal economic and trade exchanges have been seriously affected, which has caused huge losses to both countries.

In the first 11 months, the average price of LNG imported from Qatar was 4,822 yuan, the average price of LNG imported from Malaysia was 6,198 yuan, the average price of LNG imported from Indonesia was 5,304 yuan, the average price of LNG imported from Papua New Guinea was 5,110 yuan, and the average price of LNG imported from the United States was 6,943 yuan.
