It is reported that the Global Innovation Index is an authoritative and influential indicator released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 2007. It is a weather vane for global economic innovation and an important reference for economic decision-making in various countries. 15 editions have been released so far.
Among them, the top 100 global "technology clusters" are formed by sorting out and researching regional patent application activities and publishing scientific research articles, which is an important indicator reflecting regional innovation capabilities and global trends.
This year's data shows that China's 21 cities have entered the top 100 in this ranking, among which Chengdu ranks 29th in the world.

In recent years, Chengdu has implemented the innovation-driven development strategy and accelerated the construction of the science and technology innovation center with national influence. In 2021, the RD expenditure of the whole society was achieved 63.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%. National high-tech enterprise increased to 7,821, an increase of 273% over 2016. In the past five years, it has won 105 national science and technology awards, ranking among the top sub-provincial cities in the country.
In the first half of this year, the city's high-tech industry operating income reached 630.065 billion yuan, investment in high-tech manufacturing increased by 15.5%, 12 new national innovation platforms were added, and 4 new science and technology innovation board listed companies were added, with the total number increasing to 16.
From a national perspective, in 2022, China had 21 urban technology clusters in the top 100, tying the United States for the first time, tied for the world's first place, and Germany ranked third with 10 technology clusters.
Judging from the science and technology clusters of other cities in China on the list, in 2022, the rankings of 12 "technology clusters" including Dalian , Shenyang, Chongqing, Qingdao , Harbin, Hefei, Changsha, Changchun, Tianjin, Jinan, Xi'an and Chengdu have increased by more than 10 places compared with the previous year.
