九三: Promoted to Xuyi.
Sheng hexagram talks about rising up, which is what preface hexagram preaches. Those who gather together and go up are called rising. Shengxuyi is the third line of the Sheng hexagram, which means rising to the heights of the city, which is high but has no reality. Yao Ci comes from the hexagram image. Let’s take a look at how it is derived from the image.
First of all, let's look at the word "rising" in the third line. We look at it from three aspects. One is: Xunmu rises. The lower hexagram Xun is wood, the upper hexagram Kun is earth. The second, third and fourth lines form a dui hexagram with each other, and dui is broken. This is the sunda tree rising from the ground. The second is: Zhenmu rises, and the three, four, and five lines form a Zhen hexagram. Zhen is wood, which is a smooth road. The three lines meet heavy yin, and yang meets yin and connects. The third Yao will eventually be promoted to the upper six. From the above three aspects, we can get the word "Sheng".
Secondly, let's look at this virtual word. This void has two meanings, one is a high hill and the other is emptiness. When we look at the hexagrams, the lower hexagram Xun is high, the bypass hexagram of mutual duplication is Gen, and Gen is hill, or in other words, Xun is Yong, or ruins. On the high places of hills or city walls, for example, if the Tongren hexagram takes advantage of its Yong, it means Xun is Yong. When the third line rises to the upper line, the upper hexagram becomes and Gen hexagram is . Gen is the hill with the highest position, so this void is the high place. The meaning of this emptiness is seen from another perspective. The lower hexagram Xun is for three times the profit and wealth. Also for power, the so-called Xun Yi exercises power. It is empty in terms of wealth and power. The mutual hexagram Zhen is virtual, the Guimei hexagram Chengxu basket is virtual, and the upper hexagram Kun is virtual. Although the reputation and status are obtained, the wealth and power are virtual. The third line is the position of the three princes, and the upper line is also the position of the ancestral temple. The so-called high position but no position is in name only.
Third, let’s look at the word “邑”. A city is a city. When we look at the hexagram images, the upper hexagram Kun is the city. When the third line reaches the upper line, the upper hexagram becomes Gen, and Gen is also a city.
Fourth, let’s look at Confucius ’s explanation that there is no doubt about the promotion of Xuyi. Confucius was afraid that we might misunderstand something, so he told us that there is no need to doubt that we will definitely be promoted. When we look at the hexagrams, when we first reach the fourth line, these are mutual barriers. The barriers are doubts, and the upper hexagram Kun is confusion. At this time, we will be doubtful and confused, and we can't see the direction clearly. But shock is the solution and joy. When yang meets yin, it will be connected. There is no need for doubts and confusion, and we will definitely be able to rise to the top.
Every word in the lines of the Book of Changes comes from the hexagrams, and there are no redundant words. When it is difficult for us to understand the scripture, we can restore it to the hexagrams and interpret the scriptures from the hexagrams. This is the so-called observation of images and rhetoric, and it will be easy to understand.
