Ng Mang-tat
Ng Mang-tat, a Hong Kong actor, was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province on January 2, 1953. He moved to Hong Kong with his parents at the age of seven. In the Hong Kong movie , he collaborated with Stephen Chow and became a funny and nonsensical golden partner, and was known as the "Hong Kong golden supporting role".
In 1973, Ng Man-tat applied for the third Hong Kong TVB artist training class. The students in the same period included Chow Yun-fat, Lin Lingdong, etc. . His results have always been among the best.
This made Wu Mengda famous too early, and he soon got lost in fame and fortune. He drank, played cards, and dated women every day. He had no intention of working. Everyone thought that he was a piece of "mud that couldn't stand up to the wall."

In 1979, Ng Man-tat became a prime supporting actor with "The Legend of Chu Liuxiang". He once again expanded his career, spent money excessively, and became obsessed with gambling. By 1980, Ng Man-tat owed a gambling debt of 300,000 Hong Kong dollars, and he had no choice but to commit suicide.
At that time, Ng Man Tat was being chased for debts every day and was so anxious that he had no choice but to ask his former TVB classmate Chow Yun-fat to borrow money. Unexpectedly, his former good brother Chow Yun-fat rejected him without hesitation. From then on, Ng Man-tat no longer interacted with Chow Yun-fat.
Chow Yun-fat
In fact, Chow Yun-fat just didn't want to hurt Ng Man-tat anymore and wanted Ng Man-tat to stand up on his own, so he rejected Ng Man-tat's request.
Later, Wu Mengda cultivated his mind and character, worked hard to study acting again, appeared on the TV screen again, and finally paid off his debts.
In 1983, Ng Man-tat and Stephen Chow "met" for the first time in the TV series "The Legend of the Condor Heroes". Stephen Chow played a minor role in the film, playing the role of a soldier, while Ng Man-tat played the role of Elder Peng of the Beggar Gang.
It was not until 1985 that Ng Man-tat was filmed in "Brother Xin Zha". Everyone was surprised to find that Ng Man-tat was no longer a mess. Then Wu Mengta started the golden era of his acting career.
In 1989, Ng Mang-tat and Stephen Chow began to officially cooperate. Since the two lived across the street with only one street between them, they were discovered by director Wu Siyuan and started filming "The Gambler " for them. That year, "The Gambler" defeated Jackie Chan's and Xu Guanwen's films of the same period at a low cost and set a box office record. This is how Stephen Chow and Ng Mang-tat began their long-term partnership.
In 2004, when Stephen Chow started filming " kung fu ", Ng Mang Tat was rumored to be at odds with Stephen Chow, so Ng Mang Tat never collaborated with Stephen Chow again. Ng Man Tat confirmed the matter, but clarified that the two had already settled their differences.
Over the years, Wu Mengda has raised three wives, five children, and an old mother by himself. Although it is hard, he feels that everything is worth it.
Perhaps due to overwork, Ng Man-tat's health began to decline. Once while filming, a bacterial infection caused heart failure . He finally came back from the ghost gate, but his heart was not in good condition and he had to undergo multiple surgeries.
On February 27, 2021, Ng Man-tat passed away due to liver cancer at Union Hospital in Hong Kong. The funeral was held in Hong Kong on March 7, and the burial ceremony was held on the 8th, followed by cremation. The originally planned memorial service for Ng Man-tat was cancelled. Tian Qiwen said that Wu Mengda's will had been made long ago, and there was no dispute between his children and his children.
Old friend Stephen Chow also expressed his condolences to , saying that he had just learned the news. Although he had been paying attention to Ng Man-tat's condition during this period and was somewhat mentally prepared, he was still very sad and reluctant to part with it. Ng Man-tat's condition came and went quickly. " He has been my partner and old friend for so many years, and now I can't accept it."
People's Daily comments : The last Weibo post left by Wu Mang-ta before his death read "I am Chinese", which made countless netizens pay tribute collectively. Through these five short words, people can understand his simple and natural love for the country. Uncle Da is Chinese, and his love for the motherland represents the mainstream values of Hong Kong compatriots. The audience remembers and respects Uncle Da not only because of his superb acting skills, but more importantly because of his clean and hot patriotic heart. Ng Man Tat has played supporting roles all his life, but when it comes to patriotism, he has always been the protagonist. On the stage of Hong Kong, patriots and those who love the country will always be the protagonists. The emotion flowing in their blood allows them to draw a clear line between them and the anti-China chaos in Hong Kong, and join hands to rely on the motherland, protect Hong Kong, and build their homeland.
Just as netizens said: "Uncle Ta passed away, Xingzi disappeared from the screen. Our era of nonsense seems to be far away."
But when time goes back, the golden years of Hong Kong movies are still vivid in our minds.
