So, from a "charming" suspense drama to a "fascinating and irritating" unfinished drama, what did "The Returned Daughter" do wrong?
The plot is seriously flooded

All of the above only happened in a short episode. Not only did the protagonists appear, but all the possible hidden connections between them were laid out, leaving the audience with a huge space for imagination.
Such a huge amount of information has been continuously diluted in subsequent episodes, especially after Chen Youxi escaped from the mental hospital. The plot of almost every episode can be summarized in one sentence. You can even guess it by looking at the preview of the next episode. As a suspense work, the plot rhythm not only fails to advance step by step, but also becomes more and more discouraged, which naturally cannot retain the audience.
Reverse for the sake of reversal
After " Mist Theater " launched several hits one after another, it seems that all suspense themes have obtained some kind of golden formula overnight. Even from the "American drama style" title sequence, you can roughly understand the appearance of this work - the story direction of all villains, the shadow of human nature that is difficult to distinguish between good and evil, the film-like filters, and the truth that is constantly being revised.
Among all the golden formulas, "reversal" is absolutely the unbreakable truth. But "The Returned Daughter" can be said to have both success and failure.
On the one hand, the puzzle set up at the beginning of the story is indeed enough to make people shudder - Xiaoxiu's mysterious disappearance involves the shocking secret of the Li family. Although you don't know the specific secret yet, you can read from the eyes of Mei Ting and Wang Yanhui that this couple must have some exciting inside story that is about to be revealed... …
Even at one point in the middle, I was lamenting how exciting the "gossip" life of being a Tanling resident is. The Li family keeps breaking news every day, which means there is no Weibo, otherwise the server would have to explode every day.
But if you eat too much, you will get tired of it.
Especially when you find that these melons seem to have the same taste every time you eat them, and you even get a little annoyed while eating them.I had a bit of a mentality of watching the news from the " big S" family. When I saw it, I just wanted to say, let them go, I don't care about this nonsense anymore...
The reason is probably that the screenwriter is too pursuing the twists and turns of the story line, and prioritizes the plot direction over the characters, so that everyone becomes a paving stone for the plot. In other words, it is not because of the development of the plot driven by the character's personality and logic, but because everyone has to become a tool person for the sake of the plot and "use it wherever it is needed", even sacrificing the most basic logic for this.
The most obvious one here is probably Chen Youxi's "patient" Mengmeng. If Serena's "rescue scene" was a bit more elaborate (although stealing a milk truck was somehow so easy), the moment Mengmeng took out the key to the mental hospital, I believe everyone began to doubt the screenwriter's mental state.
However, this is just the tip of the iceberg of the confusing parts of the story. In order to constantly cause conflicts and reversals,

Just like that, a brain-burning drama with all the villains turned into a brain-dead drama with all the reckless people. The so-called finale where the truth is revealed is just a hasty ending that leaves a lot of chicken feathers on the ground. And in the center of this fog, the "little show" that made all illusions begin to collapse, has become the best tool for screenwriters, and has also become the most broken, divided, mysterious, and most unanswerable character.
