With the advent of the flu season, this year there is a new crown and flu superimposed epidemic risk, many people have begun to make appointments to get the flu vaccine . Some friends who received the flu vaccine left a message in the background asking: Why did get a fever after the flu vaccine? Is there a problem with the vaccine? Or is your immunity too weak? For this, we interviewed Dr. Wang Yimin from the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital.
Why does someone get fever and other symptoms after the flu vaccine? Is it related to the body's immunity?
"Fever after vaccination has nothing to do with one's own immunity. This is actually a common reaction compared to after vaccination." Dr. Wang Yimin explained to us that the vaccine is a "foreign substance" for the recipient. Vaccines are similar to the process of self-infection. Therefore, some people will experience fever, fatigue, runny nose, or muscle aches after the vaccine, but most of the vaccination reactions are mild and not serious.
Because of different vaccines, body health, nutritional status, and individual differences, the incidence of fever after vaccination is also different.
In addition, China Center for Disease Control and Prevention issued the "Chinese Influenza Vaccination Technical Guidelines (2020-2021)" mentioned that common side effects of influenza vaccine are mainly manifested as local reactions (redness, swelling, induration at the vaccination site, Pain, burning sensation, etc.) and systemic reaction (fever, headache, dizziness, drowsiness , fatigue, myalgia, general discomfort, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc.). Z13z is usually mild and disappears on its own within a few days. Z14z is rarely severe. Studies have shown that there is no difference in safety between quadrivalent and trivalent inactivated influenza vaccines, and there is no significant difference in safety between domestic and imported influenza vaccines.
Do I need to take anti-fever medicines for fever after vaccination?
Dr. Wang Yimin told us that should pay attention to the signs within 24 hours after vaccination. If symptoms such as runny nose and muscle aches occur, don’t worry too much. take a proper rest and drink plenty of water. Generally, it will heal itself within two or three days. If fever exceeds 38.5℃, use anti-fever medicine. If fever persists for more than 3 days, you can go to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, and consult and report to the doctor of the vaccination unit.
What do I need to know before getting the flu vaccine?
The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention reminds everyone:
1. According to China’s 2015 edition and the latest 2020 edition of the "Pharmacopoeia", "egg allergy" is no longer a taboo for influenza vaccination, but the ingredients contained in the vaccine (such as excipients, formaldehyde) People who are allergic to influenza vaccines should not be vaccinated;
