A whole film of backlight hit the 12 young actors in front of the stage. The drum beat fell, "The family can be broken, the country must be protected; the body can be killed, and the will is indomitable." The music theater "19/19" premiered from now until October 31, bringing classic old songs to the audience in the •D6 space of Shanghai Drama Art Center.
《19/19》 tells the story of the fall of Northeast China in 1931, when Japan launched the September 18th Incident and the Northeast fell. Lin Shuxiong, an underground member of the Communist Party of China who was active as a teacher at Shanghai Primary School, resolutely rushed to the front line. His daughter was only 9 years old when he parted. After Lin Shuxiong died, his comrades took over his father's identity and wrote letters to his family for his "daughter" he had never met.
"19/19" originated from the director Tianshui 's love for "On the Taihang Mountain". She hopes that such excellent musical works will not be forgotten as time goes by, so she found the screenwriter Yu Rongjun , hoping to write a script that can carry these classic old songs. The two men repeatedly considered and communicated, and finally formed a story line, which conveyed the old songs that influenced generations of people and the feelings of the revolutionary era to young audiences through drama.
Tian Shui explained her directorial philosophy, "Stage art is ultimately a performing art. It presents a 19-year history within an hour and a half. It is necessary to return the story and songs to the theater itself, reduce auxiliary means, strengthen the strength of the actors, condense the complex changes in the front line and intertwin the stage, and express it in the simplest and simple form." This story line composes the musical of the Grand Theater "Battle Letters", telling the war from the perspective of a father. This story line produces the outdoor immersive drama "No. 19 Wukang Road" that walks on Wukang Road, and follows the perspective of his daughter Lin Huixin and experiences the growth of a little girl on Wukang Road in Shanghai from 1931 to 1949; six years later, this story line returns to Tian Shui's original intention - the musical theater "19/19" that communicates closely with the audience in the small theater. The same story, three completely different performance forms, are the moving emotions and melodious echoes brought by the song.
"19/19" adds the narration perspective. The narration character played by Shen Lei connects major events in the long river of history. He is not only the anchor point of time for the father-daughter love, but also the "eye" of modern people looking back on history. The stage design of "19/19" is simple but not without power. The old-fashioned letter paper on three sides is wrapped around the stage, accompanied by different lighting renderings. Dozens of chairs are frontline trenches and home in Shanghai. More than a dozen actors play multiple roles, both the leading actors and the singing team, and their costumes dilute gender and weaken the character traits. At the end of the performance, the actors returned to their position at the beginning, and the side light hit them. The belief in winning and determination conveyed by the whole play made the audience applause.
