In the "Journey to the West" team to learn scriptures, the most inconspicuous one should be Sha Seng . People have always praised Sha Seng as: loyal, honest, conscientious, always working silently, never being petty, and always respectful and filial to Tang Seng. But this is actually not Sha Seng's nature. Sha Seng's performance has his reasons.
Read the original work of "Journey to the West", we will know that Sha Seng is the first demon to enlighten him on the way to Chang'an to find the sutras. Mu Cha fought with him for dozens of rounds without a chance of winning or losing.
Sha Seng was originally a rolling curtain general in the sky, but he was demoted to Liusha River because he broke the glass cup. But what did he do after he arrived at Liusha River? On the 32nd day, I went out to catch someone to eat, which is probably even more terrifying than the demons I encountered on the way to obtain the scriptures.
Let’s look at him again, and there is a string of skulls hanging around his neck. How many skulls are there in total? There are a long list of TV series, many. In fact, there are specific numbers in the original work, with a total of nine, and the origin of these nine skulls is very large.
These nine skulls were Tang Monk’s first nine lives. We know that Tang Monk is the second disciple under the Tathagata, named Jinchanzi . Because when Tathagata was preaching in class, he did not listen carefully, he was demoted to the mortal world by Tathagata. Jin Chanzi was demoted to the mortal world, but he still focused on the Buddha and vowed to return to the Tathagata, so he wanted to travel west to obtain the scriptures. As a result, he was eaten by the Sha Monk when he walked to the Liusha River. This is true for the first nine lives.
And what are the characteristics of Liusha River? The book says: "Eight hundred quicksand realms, three thousand weak waters are deep. Goose feathers cannot float, and reed flowers sink to the bottom."
Do you think this river monster is strange? However, what is even more strange is that Jin Chanzi's skull actually floated on the water without sinking. Sha Seng saw it interesting, "Wear the sauer in one place and play with it in his spare time."
Seeing this, you must understand why Sha Seng became so honest and obedient when he joined the Buddhist team. Anyone who is involved would probably be honest. After eating someone nine times, they end up falling into their hands and becoming an apprentice. So can it be better if they are disobedient?
And those nine skulls are actually useful, not played in TV series, and have been hanging around Sha Seng's neck. When Guanyin Bodhisattva enlightened the Sha Monk, he said, "You can hang the skeleton under your head and wait for the people to obtain the scriptures, which will be of use."
In the 22nd chapter, after subduing the Sha Monk, he put the nine skeletons in one place, left the nine palaces, and then put the gourd of Guanyin Bodhisattva in it, which allowed Tang Monk to cross the quicksand river smoothly.
, and using the skeleton that was before Tang Monk crossing the river is also in line with the Buddhist saying that self-salvation is true. Zen The Sixth Patriarch Huineng once said to his teacher The Fifth Patriarch Hongren: "When you are confused, you will realize that you will save yourself." The teacher preaches and answers questions, and if you really want to understand, you still have to rely on yourself. And everyone has Buddha nature, how can they realize it? The "Brahman Net Sutra: The Tenth chapter of the Bodhisattva's Heart Precepts" says: "My original nature is pure. If you know the nature of your mind, you will all become Buddhas." That is, "seeing nature to become Buddhas."
Sha Seng’s diligence on the journey to obtain scriptures was also exchanged for his fruit and became “ Golden Body Arhat ”. Arhat also reflects the performance of Sha Seng along the way. In Buddhism, Arhats are to cut off personal grudges and feelings, without anger, greed, desire, ignorance, no anger, no annoyance, no annoyance.
Through the above introduction, we also know one thing, that is, Sha Seng is a person who has truly eaten Tang Seng’s meat. In the original book of Journey to the West, there is another person who has eaten Tang Monk’s meat. Do you know who it is?
