Since the market for graduates with higher education on the island to work in colleges and universities is relatively small, many Taiwanese teachers have gone to the mainland to work in recent years. There are estimated that there are about two or three thousand Taiwanese teachers who are teaching in mainland China.

At that time, there were very few Taiwanese teachers in mainland China. He himself was the first Taiwanese teacher to stay in , who had been in for a long time. After that, there were more and more. He said that there are more than 1,000 people in a Taiwanese teacher WeChat group that have joined, and even more people have not joined yet. Regarding the subject composition of Taiwanese teachers, he analyzed that there are relatively many science and engineering and medical departments.
Another Taiwanese teacher Shuai Zemin, who is an associate professor in the Department of Business English at Zhaoqing College, Guangdong, said that the supply of employment positions for doctoral faculty in Taiwan was insufficient. After 2015, he went to mainland universities to teach one after another. In 2018, a large number of Taiwanese teachers collectively went to mainland universities to work. To date, there are about two or three thousand Taiwanese teachers in mainland China, with the largest number of coastal provinces in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong.
Associate Professor Wang Wenlong, who teaches in , School of History, Nankai University, said that after Taiwanese teachers go to the mainland, the age and threshold for scientific research are relatively high. For example, Taiwanese students are about 35 years old when they get their doctorate, while mainland students are usually less than 30 years old. In terms of scientific research requirements, mainland universities basically require teachers to apply for provincial and ministerial projects, and there are also requirements for the publication of papers.
Although cross-strait exchanges have cooled down in recent years due to the impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and cross-strait tensions, some academic exchanges have been maintained. Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council said at a press conference on the 28th that there are currently about 12,000 Taiwanese students studying in mainland universities. According to data released by the Ministry of Education of the Mainland recently, in 2021, there were 38,200 students in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in mainland universities, and more and more Taiwanese students chose to study in the mainland.

From the perspective of results, they are welcomed by Taiwanese students. This year, the annual increase rate of admitted students with academic test scores exceeds 20%.
