CMOS image sensor company OmniVision recently announced the launch of OV08X, , which is the industry's first 9.2 million pixel CMOS sensor with a pixel size of 0.7-micron and 4K video shooting at 1/5.7-inch optical size.

OV08X can be adapted to a variety of 16:10 (1920x1200) aspect ratio monitors and only takes up 4 mm on the vertical length (y-axis). It is the first image sensor on the laptop market that integrates a four-unit color filter array and on-chip hardware puzzle, which can provide a high-quality 9.2 million Bayer format (Bayer format refers to most color image sensors at each pixel point. The position senses the color of only one of the RGB three channels, which is used to save manufacturing costs) output.

Akim Chen, product marketing manager at OmniVISION, said: “Users no longer need to rely on external webcams for high-quality video calls. OMNIVISION’s OV08X image sensor enables high-end and flagship laptop designers to use high-resolution 4K cameras. Create the thinnest device. We also meet many user needs for working and learning from home with the new OV08X, including automatic viewing, human presence detection and high dynamic range (HDR) image capture. The
OV08X image sensor has been released and will be mass-produced in December 2022.
